I try and splurge a little every holiday season and order some kind of beer treat for myself but this year i'm having trouble. Does anyone know of a good place to get a gift box set or a holiday release from a brewery or bottle shop that ships?

For example, I was about to buy the 4 bottle Chronology set plus Teku glass from the Bruery website but it seems that I waited one day too many and it sold out.

Was considering a Belgium box set from Beer Mania but nothing really catches my eye right now when you factor in crazy high shipping costs.

Why not just go to your local shop and splurge right there? I bet there was plenty of beer there both foreign and domestic that you did not buy because of price. Go back and get those beers.

It's possible that I missed some local gems here and there, but I live in Oakland and there are two (2) bottle shops in the whole town worth a dang. I miss being in NYC, where it looks like you're from, where I could hop on the subway to hunt down all kinds of rarities at random beer bodegas and specialty shops.

There are other stores that have good ratings by BA members. See if any of these are close to you.

Haha, yeah we've got The Good Hop and Beer Revolution. The rest are a joke.

I mean, BevMo has gift sets during the holidays usually but that's not really "supporting local business" any more than buying from a locally owned store in Brussels or the UK that sells online.

    Thanks for the link though!

Sure. Some of our nearby places have the Corsondonk Christmas Ale in a packaged set that includes 6 250 ml bottles of beer and a Corsondonk goblet. I'm also betting that several other places in PA have it on offer as well. As an additional bonus the Christmas Ale holds up to aging quite well and so one can have two bottles a year as a special treat for each of 3 Christmases.

I picked up 2 bottles of Hardywood Bourbon Barrel Gingerbread stout, a bottle of Xocoveza Charred and a bottle of St Bernardus Christmas Ale. These are my end of year beers for Christmas.

I picked up a lizard of Koz. It was disappointing. Way to sweet for me. Didn't come close to finishing it.

Let me offer a different spin on the title of the thread (hopefully its not a hi-jack). When you get a gift card for your favorite beer store this X-mas, what beer are you finally going to buy with your giftcard that you've been passing on for months (because of the highprice/your beer budget etc).

For me, with a gift card, I may finally buy one of those Cascade sours (running around $35 in my area). Possibly the Hannsen's Gueze tiny 350ml for $18. There's alot of expensive Bruery bottles that I never choose to grab, so maybe I'll see which of those is in a style/high rating to get.

It looks like they're well stocked on IPAs. Abrasive is one of my favorite beers of all time.

Yeah that one is great, and they have PsuedoSue in stock right now which i've been wanting to try forever.

I've mainly used them to order Surly and Toppling Goliath stuff. Do you recommend any other breweries that they carry which aren't widely available?

To be honest I've only ordered Surly beers. their family of IPAs have always worked for me. If it wasn't so expensive I might branch out, but I stick to cannot fail beers.

Total Wine has great prices on a couple of gift sets. I picked up the St. Bernardus 4-pack with chalice for $15.99 (after $1 off 4-pack coupon) and the Weihenstephaner 5 beers + glass pack for $9.99 (after coupon). Those are amazing prices compared to other stores. For the beer alone they are a great value!

I picked up the Short's Hoppy Holidays 12-pack for my gift. It has 4 different hoppy beers (3 are new to me) and I'm not waiting until Christmas to drink them. The task is already underway.

I ended up treating myself to a couple large bottles from the new Mikkeller tasting room bottle shop in Oakland.

Nelson Sauvin Brut dry hopped & Red and White Christmas

Pricey stuff but I love my Mikkeller beers!

I shop local. I chased down bottles of Fantome Noel yesterday (understandably not everyone's favorite) as well as some other holiday brews. ~five stops for three purchases.
