Exceptional RIS, imo. Huge pleasing vanilla notes up front with a touch of oak on the finish. Nice warming local Maine stout while it's cold and snowy outside. Definitely planning on buying some more of this before it sells out. Cheers!

My sauerkraut is ready. I had some the other day. The Choucroute Garni is waiting on the right company.

Good evening BA, hope everyone had a good Monday back to work. We had a 2 hour town hall meeting today for our advanced vehicle development group. Some of the worst tasting free coffee I have ever had . Daily reviews today:

Really nice DIPA. Aromas and flavors of big grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, and pine hops; with moderate honey, toasted biscuit, and light caramel malt sweetness; with floral/grassy hops earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/grassy bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; balanced sticky/resins and bready Munich malt creaminess in the mouthfeel. Increasing resin dryness, minimal lingering hop astringency. Very drinkable, minimal warming 10.2%. Great hop juiciness, good malt backbone without feeling too sweet. This is probably Simcoe, Citra, Amarillo, and Columbus hops if I had to guess. 3.9

This is really fresh, and really great stuff! (bottled 10 days ago, assuming 6 month BB dating). Aromas and flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, orange peel, pepper, and pine hop/yeast notes; with moderate honey/biscuit and light caramel/toasted malts; with herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/citrus peel bitterness and peppery yeast spice on the finish. Medium bodied; moderately crisp and sticky/resinous mouthfeel, with a fair amount of balancing grainy malt creaminess. Moderate increasing peppery/resin dryness; some lingering hop astringency near the end of the glass, but not overwhelming. This surprised the hell out of me. Extremely bright on fruity/tropical hop and yeast notes; with solid malt presence. A bit too aggressive/drying on phenols/bitterness, but still extremely drinkable. Really minimal complaints. Will definitely grab another single again. 4

Outstanding BBA pumpkin Black ale! Over a year old(9/17/15 date), but I found it on the shelf over T-day weekend. Aromas and flavors of big pumpkin, chocolate, cocoa, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, toffee, toasted oak, spicy rye, dark/brown breads, and light bourbon/molasses; with moderate cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and clove spice. Light herbal/roast bitterness and bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; very creamy/silky in the mouthfeel; with light spice stickiness, chalky roast, and woody tannins in the mouthfeel. Lightly drying from tannic oak and sticky/chalky roast/spice notes. No idea how it was a year ago, but now the balance and integration of malt, barrel, and spices is amazing!! Fantastic silky mouthfeel. Very drinkable and minimal warming for 11%! 4.25

That was a good one. Just had to laugh.

I miss the pine flavors I used to get when I started delving into IPA'S but that had some monster pine flavor even for me with pine flavor hop burn out. Probably my favorite IPA Sam Adams has brewed.

Music is kind of a big friggin' deal in this house. Lots of enjoyment, and a place of common ground, not to mention the wife and I met in college concert band. Made a little gas and beer money over the lean years, too. My uncle played trombone in the Army honor band and started me on it when I was about six or seven...still have that first horn that mom scrambled to come up with the twenty bucks to buy. Started tuba when I was in college and have mostly played that since. Similar story for my wife, but on trumpet and I forget which relative was the inspiration. There are instruments all over the damned house. I think there are five tubas (one in pieces), my four trombones, at least three trumpets, my daughter's horns, several geetars, a banjo... God knows what else. Oh....there is a freakin' autoharp somewhere. Why the fuck does anyone own an autoharp? But everybody plays, everybody sings.

Can you buy that in stores up your way? I don't know if they distribute but I'd like to get their brews down my way, their IPA was excellent on draft.

The scuttlebutt from the locals is that this can vary quite a bit from batch to batch. It can be hard to tell though because they do not date. Most of the sellers I've asked say freshness is not a concern because it flies off the shelves and is restocked regularly.

This is a pretty good batch...
