Welcome to BA! How's the beer scene up in BC? If it matches the scenery, not a bad place to be! Cheers!

    Thanks!

I think it's a pretty good scene on Vancouver Island (and on the mainland for that matter!). There are about 4 or 5 good breweries that I've found within a 45 minutes walk of my place - which is just way too convenience. And for a municipal area of 400 000 or so people, already a great ratio. And I know there's a few places I haven't been to or seen yet.

My personal favorite, so far, is Driftwood Brewery - their Fat Tug IPA is amazing - and the New Growth Pale Ale is just as good - but with a lower ABV. So sessionable... I guess? My wife and I just moved west to the Island, so its still an exploration for us - which is awesome.

Not a fan. Taste very artificial.

    Having a couple IPA's tonight.

    #1. Mankato Mad Butcher IPA

This beer is just worthy. Such rich notes of grapefruit, tangerine, and tons of pith on the finish. It's so juicy...it's like an aspirant of Todd the Axeman. Nice work, Mankato.

This one was much less impressive. It's fresh, but not particularly flavorful. Just basically the equivilant of chewing on a grapefruit rind. Not a favorite of mine, and probably won't be revisiting again.

I decided I couldn't wait any longer to crack this one, and holy cow is it amazing. Better than I expected, actually. I always expect these spiced imperial stouts to be too sweet, too strong, and overspiced, but the spices are subtle and the coffee and bitter chocolate is extremely well done. And, at 13% abv, it drinks very easily without being cloying or boozy. 10/10, would buy again.

I had a lot of people tell me they loved Snake Party. I didn't like it at all. As I recall, it was too piney for my taste. I'll have to try it on tap if they make it again.
