Next year put in a special request for 2015 Rare and see what happens...

The manager would probably faint after hearing the price of it.

Agreed. It was certainly the cheapest I've ever paid.

I should definitely try. But this isn't really a place that gets in rare beers and has a very limited craft selection. The weird thing is, he only received one bottle. As with most beer, this is usually distributed by the case, so I can't quite figure out how he managed to snag one bottle (he said it was "their" only bottle). Looks like I'll need to do some additional investigating prior to next black Friday.

Prop was with Bourbon Barrels only, while the other is Bourbon and Rye Barrels:

Yes, but Prop is brewed with immense gratitude for their hometown.

Also, one has cacao, the other has cocoa.

Yeah, they are too close.. That might explain why they didn't put Maple Rye out this year, because it was just too similar to Prop.. They said the Maple Rye barrels "weren't ready." I wonder if that's because they're possibly adding another adjunct to them to truly differentiate it from Prop OR Prop will be totally different next year so when they release both, they'll each stand out.

The rumor was Prop was initially suppose to be Scotch Barrel Prop. I think the running theory is that the scotch barrels didn't work out so Maple Pepper Rye then became Maple Pepper Prop instead.... and we were told that Maple Rye "wasn't ready".

Or maybe I have no idea what I'm talking about and we are all over thinking this.:astonished:

My theory is they went shopping and could never find any cacao and gave up on it.

I had October ones that turned out just fine. They gave specific dates of the contaminated ones. My October bottles didn't fall on one of those dates and my beer was perfect.

My Octobers fell on the same October date (one of the infected dates) and they were all horrendously bad.

Hartford area got a second drop last week. After only scoring 4 bottles of regular on Black Friday, I happened to walk into my local Total Wine last Tuesday and they had just gotten in a case of Barleywine. Right place at the right time....and the state of CT wasn't supposed to even get any variants.
