St. Pete has a great farmers market downtown every Saturday with lots of different tents, and live music. We will likely head there in a few hours and enjoy the cooler weather. Cheers!

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! Not much going on here today. I just finalized a trade yesterday, so I have some beer packing to do. Also need to buy a new bike tire for my trainer bike, old one keeps eating tubes since I’ve used it too much and the threads are showing on the inside of the tire.

Revisiting my review for this one, 2015 batch was better than the original run. This is awesome! Huge flavors of milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, toffee, molasses, chilies, toasted oak, bourbon, and light licorice/dark fruits; touch of coffee. Light chili pepper spice on the finish that builds through the glass; with pleasant warming pepper heat that builds as well. Neither becomes too overwhelming. Slightly drying from increasing pepper spice. Really well balanced and very drinkable. The 2014 batch was super hot and powerful on the peppers, but this one was a lot better. You still get a nice building kick of earthy pepper spice and heat, but it never overpowers the base beer. I hope they make another batch soon!

Fantastic as usual. Flavors of big toasted coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, dark bread, and light coffee. Light balancing roast bitterness against sweetness. Awesome creamy/silky medium body; light touch of sticky/chalky roast character and dryness. I love this stuff. If I could have bought a case, I would have. At least I have Blackrocks Coconut Brown to get my coconut fix in, when I run out of this. It’s quite similar in a lot of ways.

Awesome as usual! Flavors of nutty roasted coffee; with milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, and hints of dark fruits. Bittersweet roasted finish; with a great creamy/silky and lightly sticky/chalky balanced mouthfeel. Slightly drying. Highly drinkable with great well balanced coffee/stout complexity. Doesn't hold a candle to Founders, but I still love it for its own reasons. More of balanced coffee stout, with more dark malt sweetness and less roast/char bitter/dryness; while still having a ton of nutty/fruity coffee character. This is basically my second go-to favorite coffee stout for the price.

Revisiting this review after nearly 5 years. This was awesome! Flavors of big lemon, orange peel, grapefruit, pineapple, pear, peach, apricot, mango, melon, peppercorn, and pine hops; with moderate honey/biscuit malt balance; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Good sized pine/peppery/citrus rind bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; very sticky/resinous and fairly creamy/grainy in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing resin dryness, minimal lingering hop astringency. A lot more impressed with this than I remember originally. This is a spot on take on an English Imperial IPA. Great mix of earthy/spicy hops in combination with fruity English yeast character. Not too malty, but well balanced. Really hits all the right notes for the style. Wouldn't mind grabbing another bomber while it's still fresh.

    Cheers

I'm still in the process of learning how to appreciate Brown Ales, so after hearing so many good things about Maduro I simply had to try it. Typically, the one thing I associate with Brown Ales is the distinctive (and for most part unique to Brown Ales) flavor/aroma of what I can only describe as how pitted Kalamata olives smell after they've been left at room temperature for too long. It's not necessarily a bad thing (besides, it's always very faint), but for me it's been something I've smelled/tasted in pretty much all the Brown Ales I've had the chance to sample (Abita Turbodog, Bell's Best Brown to name a couple). This one (Cigar City Maduro) however lacks this feature altogether. To me it looked and tasted like a "diluted" Porter. Lots of roasted flavors and aromas that I usually associate with beers in the black-end of the color spectrum. I would have had trouble guessing this was a Brown Ale if I didn't know beforehand. A good beer but quite an outlier flavor-wise within the Brown category.

    Happy Saturday BA's

With all the holiday brews and winter warmers and such I have been drinking lately, sometimes a big ass Thistle full of hops is what is needed!

Good morning BAs! It's a snowy morning here in NW PA, with the "lake-effect snow" still pummeling us - looks like about four inches so far in the last 36 hours. Global warming in action! Why, when I was your age, we didn't call it lake-effect snow, it was just snow. And we didn't get a paltry four inches - it was up to our asses! And get off my lawn!

I'm continuing to reduce inventory, so today's breakfast beer is:

As I've said before, brew with rye and you've sold it to me. Probably one of my favorite grains. Hey, there's a thread topic - What's your favorite brewing grain and why? Anyway, my inventory (About 12 cases of 12 ozers and bombers) is reduced by another bottle. (I'm going back through my occasionally spotty records to determine my alcohol costs for 2016 - it's looking like around 5k dollars.) I'm saving several from the fabulous box from @Josholson666 from NBS BIF #4 for upcoming NBSs.

GM! Have been very excited to try this one--it's very luscious yet a good amount of bitterness to balance.
