It might not even be out yet. Abyss has been delayed, per Deschutes:

"As much as we try to predict the release of The Abyss each year, the barrel-aged portion of this beer tells us when it’s ready. We can’t rush perfection, and we want to ensure that The Abyss ages in your cellar as expected. So, in our pursuit of placing quality first, the release of The Abyss has unfortunately been delayed. We hope to release not only the classic version that we’ve all grown to love over the past decade, but also two new 100% barrel-aged versions – Brandy & Scotch – before the end of the year. We appreciate your patience and we’ll be sure to let you all know as soon as we know."

KDS for Thanksgiving, Abyss for Christmas. I can deal with this.

I would say slim to none, I haven't seen any Rye bottles since spring, and Cognac has been even longer. Maybe people closer to Seattle can say for sure, but I know up north they have both been gone for a while, and there were quite a few in the market for some time.

Didn't they do something similar to this last year? I'd much rather wait for a beer that is ready than one that is rushed just because they have a deadline, I don't mind at all.

That's kind of what I figured? I've got a couple of friends down there, maybe one can hook up me.

    Thanks!

Venti's in Salem is having an Abyss party on Dec 17th, so I presume that means this year's will be out around then.

I would be surprised if it will be released by the 17th. Last I heard from the brewery, they said the release date would be listed on their web page under the events. Haven't seen anything listed yet.

I'm surprised they have it listed at all considering Deschutes hasn't given a date yet, but the Abyss event specifically states a four year vertical including 2016. It's entirely possible they've just had the event posted for awhile and didn't take it down when they announced the release being delayed. I'm hopeful it's accurate, because that would mean it would be out for Christmas. Seemed worth mentioning at the very least.

For anyone who might be interested, was at the MofC on Terwilliger last night, and much to my surprise, saw bottles of the Rye available (along with the regular version from last year). $24.99 a bottle, and they seemed to have a shelf full.

I remember seeing bottle pop up around town before the release last year...

I was wondering about that as well. I go over there pretty frequently now, and had never noticed any Abyss or variants in the past. Granted, I'm pretty oblivious at times, but I tend to always check over their "rare beer" display when I'm in the store. So I was rather surprised when I saw all that rye and regular Abyss on the bottom shelf last night.

ABV Public House in Hillsboro had Cognac Abyss available at their Cellar Sale a couple weekends ago. They didn't sell all of it, and they mentioned that the rest of it would end up in their beer coolers intermittently over the holiday season.

I picked up two bottles of the Cognac Abyss at Zupan's a week before they had it at the pub in Portland last year.

Pilgrim's in Cd'A, ID had a bottle of Rye sitting out on their beer customer service counter, oh, about 1.5 weeks ago. I was shocked, seeing how those variants didn't hit many places in east WA/north ID, vanished rather quickly, and haven't been seen since. Posted as for sale, I want to say $27 asking price. :astonished: I bought it anyway.

It's entirely possible that they have more but that they don't have space on the shelves for it. I didn't ask. It was sitting next to other single bottles of "featured" special release beers (like Christmas BOMB!) that they also didn't have on any shelves or in the cooler. If you don't see any out, you might try asking someone on staff.

There's a store in Salem with both of last years variants still available for 25 each if people are still looking for any.

Just booked my hotel for Friday night, coming down from Seattle for the release. Will have lunch and get my bottles at Deschutes and then drink my way through Portland. Looking forward to this.

Anyone know if the Brandy and Scotch Abyss variants are on tap? Or are they bottle only?

Portland pub was a Deschutes abyss explosion. 2014-16 bottles to go plus all variants. had samples of scotch and brandy on tap. 2012-16 on tap. 2016 on nitro. brrrrrrrrrrr

all were excellent. but don't ever fret over a Deschutes release. they have crates of everything going back for years. cases of last years Rye and Cognac for the same price as 2015
