RIS homebrew from a random box when posting up a buddy's 5000th like; an act I plan to pay forward at some other near future milestone. In the background is Elf on a Shelf, hurting badly this morning, having mistaken my bourbon for chocolate and helping himself to a generous pour.

Following that holiday cheer are these two guys--while I don't seek out Christmas beer, the wife does, so they make their annual appearance in our home.

Bonus pic from ringing the Salvation Army bell yesterday--the reward was a quick Enjoy By with the youngest, while the wife took her turn to ring with the two girls.

well hopefully this isn't an indication of the way the rest of the day will go. apparently i managed to get the opener to dig into the lip of the glass instead of just the lid. i thought there was slightly more resistance than should be, next thing an unusual "crack" sound.:grimacing:

    which led to this:

ended up with about 80% of what usually fills the cup.

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! Not much going on here today. I still need to pack up a trade to ship out tomorrow. Returning some bottles later on this morning and doing the laundry for sure.

Amazing as usual, still tasting delicious after over 2 months from bottling. Flavors of grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, mango, lemon/orange peel, and pine hops; with some light honey/biscuity malt balance; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/grassy/citrus peel bitterness. Medium bodied, balanced grainy creaminess and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel; lightly resinous and never astringent. Increasingly drying finish. Super juicy stuff. Glad I grabbed multiple packs this year. Still have 1 left, but there are still 4 packs available on the shelf. Might grab more actually.

Incredible as usual. Flavors of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, cinnamon, vanilla, cream, nutmeg, chile pepper, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, and toasted brown bread. Light roast/spice bitterness on the finish. Medium-full bodied; great creamy/silky mouthfeel, with some light sticky/chalky roast/spice notes as well. Lightly drying. Zero pepper heat. Balance is pretty much perfect between spices and stout flavors. Made sure to grab 2 6 packs this year. Still a few out there on the shelf, so I might grab another to hold me over till next year.

My last 2014, just passed 2 years old last week. Absolutely sublime right now. Huge flavors of caramel, raisin, cherry, fig, date, apricot, apple, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, bourbon, and toasted oak; with light notes of molasses, vanilla, coconut, and butterscotch. Light balancing bourbon/oak spiciness on the finish against the sweetness; minimal warming on the finish, zero barrel booze. Very smooth sipping; with a very creamy, silky, and slightly slick/syrupy full body mouthfeel. Wow. This is another one of those beers I really need remind myself to stock up on more often. I think there are some 4 packs from last year’s batch still around, so I will get one soon. I only have 1 bottle of 2015 left too. I love English barleywines the most of any style.

Fantastic batch this year! Flavors of big dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, rye whiskey, toasted oak, light charred malt. Fair amount of roasted coffee bitterness and rye whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Medium-full body; very creamy/silky with a touch of sticky/chalky roast/barrel notes in the mouthfeel. Slightly drying. Never boozy, mildly warming for 12.2%. Glad they did 6 packs this year, and for the absolutely amazing price of $12. I hope this is a trend moving forward. Just as good as any other hyped BBA stouts at less than half the price per bottle. Glad I was able to snag a full 6 pack. You can hate Heineken all you want, but this is a result of the deal and I am all for it. Inexpensive barrel aged stouts, what a time to be alive.

    Cheers

Have a better shot with the middle child (50mm lens), but I can't seem to find it (for comparison). But thanks.

    Happy Sunday BA's

Chilly and some snow overnight and a few more inches on tap for today....seems like a good indoor drinking and wrapping gifts kind of day!

Good morning BAs! Still getting light snowfall here in NW PA - looks like about four inches over the last two days. Today's New Breakfast Beer is this from @Josholson666 for NBS BIF #4:

I don't own a proper chalice to drink from as ordered by the bottle so this will have to do. This'll be a cross post with NBS when I finish reviewing it.

I was creating a mix-n-match 6 pack the other day when after 4 beers I realized that there was nothing else that looked good. So out of necessity I decided to pick this can of Bronx Belgian Pale Ale and a can of Spellbound Pale Ale simply because I had never had any beers from these breweries. And what do you know, they ended up being absolutely amazing. The Bronx BPA tasted absolutely delicious, the spiciness of the Belgian yeast and the fresh hop aromas combining to create something that could have come straight out of Tired Hands. Spectacular. No idea how fresh this can was but I bet it was no more than just a few days or weeks old. Similarly, the Spellbound PA was surprisingly good: Very balanced but with insanely fresh hop aromas that made you want to drink more. Neither of these beers are sold in PA as far as I know (at least around my neck of the woods) so I may have to go to NJ to get more.

Up late again, so late to rise. Another sunny cool morning on the treasure coast. The 4 packs are finally disappearing from the shelves around here, and the prices are being marked up:

Not sure what we are doing today. Maybe some Xmas shopping, wrapping later. Have a great Sunday!
