-Thank you for the thread start. Although I purchase bottles most often, I have not tasted any "can flavors" in recent years. I appreciate IPAs in cans, especially in the summer, for safety (pool/beach/boat/glass) and convenience. I prefer crowlers over growlers for the time I can take between purchase and opening.

I was attracted to this new-to-me beer and brewery by the canvenience and the graphics -looked like snow flurries.

Revolution Brewing's Mosaic Hero is a crisp IPA. This deep orange pour with fine bubbles leaves tight rings on the glass with each draw. The aroma has a tough of tangerine in it. Flavors are more citrus than pine. There is a rich malt profile and a dry finish. I will be looking for this again (today).

    Greetings friends,
Thanks to Dave for his standard perfect Sunday AM send off. The past two mornings have been cold by North Carolina standards, so the trails have been a bit less peopled on our morning jaunts.....I really don't like to say it too much, but I like having the woods a bit more to ourselves. Don't get me wrong, the folks around here are great, but I see a lot more of everything when less people are moving about. Kinda reminds me of this place when I was a kid and we made these trails;the ones that now become busy when the weather is perfect. What is wonderful is that the area has largely retained its character of 50+ years ago. I do live in the woods.
Today's beer is Achel Brune. This Trappist brewery has a very interesting history. Without too much info, it is notable that the monks at Westmalle and Rochefort helped in the rebuilding of the Achel Brewery after 1998. I need to read some more. It's a good story.
Mahogany to ruddy brown, this Trappist brew pitches a big frothy white head that recedes fairly quickly to a steady whitish cap.
A big yeasty scalded brown sugar nose, imbedded with dark fruit notes- raisins, plums, grapes again- eases into a big further roasted malt presence, with a hint of some big red wine behind it all.
Typical fruitiness at first, with sweet to dry very quickly, and a nice malty graininess- like the smell and taste of a big slice of very fresh black bread. Some spiciness, maybe pepper and a nice minerality together seem to add to the dryness at the finish.
A very nice beer, easy to drink, that in no way showcases its 8% alcohol. Achel Brune is a hearty,
tasty beer that does have a nice vinous streak.

This is one of my all time favorites. This is a bit quicker tempo than some versions, but it's great. I ran a place in the early 70s that had a remarkable juke box. This was amongst the many jewels, and hearing it always transports me to those days. Cheers All!

It was pretty funny when he was little and first got into it. I was like a deer in headlights. Every sport I played had a ball. I didn't know what the hell was going on. Now I have 3 swimmers and am about as into it as they are:grinning:

Greetings from the snowy southern shore of the Great Lake Michigan! A morning of clearing driveways and letting the mutts run wild in the fresh white fluff. Stout season is in high gear and much needed after spending some time in the elements.

I'm going back in time around 4-5 years ago to a place that was one of my regular stops until better options opened in the region. A tiny little 8 oz. bottle that's reminiscent of the Miller ponies from way back released by regional Crown Brewing in Crown Point Indiana. It's Grand Poohbah Russian-Style Imperial Stout with a born on date of Sep. 15/2016 with 50 IBU's and no abv. listed on the label. Let's pour this cute little bottle in my cute little Dark Matter Coffee DLD mini snifter from a few years ago.

Pours a thin dark brown leaving a centimeter of light brown foam behind. It settles to a thin ring leaving no lacing. Smell is figs, raisins, brown sugar, tobacco and leather. There's a hint of dark roast and char in the back. The taste is dark fruits including figs, raisins and prunes up front. Some brown sugar sweetness follows, with a bit of tobacco and dark roast in the finish. The feel is oily but much thinner than I prefer my stouts.

This was one of, if not their best release years ago when I was a regular so I had to try it when I saw it in my local store. Going from memory it's pretty spot on compared to the draft version I had years ago. I purchased 4 of these little guys for $3.99 each, drank 2 today and will enjoy the others in the coming winter months. My score is 3.95 / rDev -0.5%.

Time to take the mutts back out for another round of fun and settle in for more beer and football later. Here's Bailey just being her usual puppy self in the snow.

Have a great NBS, looking forward to the posts. Here's the official scorecard....

Good Afternoon all getting ready to start watching some football, thanks to @cavedave for the great start and congratulations to @WesMantooth on his son's performance. This morning I am getting started with a new beer from Burial Brewing in Asheville, NC called Blade & Sheath, this is the first Saison I have had from them and it is pretty tasty. The aroma was a little strong on the banana and clove but the flavors were well balanced and way too easy to drink!! Hope everyone has a great Sunday.

Appearance 4 - Pours cloudy yellowish color with thin white head that quickly dissipates leaving spotty bands of lacing around the glass.

Aroma 4 - Banana, clove, yeast, hay, little but of farmhouse funk.

Taste 4.25 - The spiciness stands out in the flavor, little bit of hoppiness, slightly floral with hints of banana. The flavors are well balanced very tasty nothing too strong and overpowering.

Feel 4.25- Lighter body, well carbonated, clean crisp feel.

Overall 4.13- I really liked this beer, it was the first saison I have had from Burial and the flavors blend well and the feel is great.

Sadly, I have come to the last bottle from @smanson56's MWK BIF box, and what an excellent journey it has been!

Today's new beer is Elbrus from Night Shift - a Russian Imperial Stout from their Barrel Society Series.

This is one outstanding stout bringing a nice blend of complex flavors and aromas, and a nice balance between roasty flavors and sweetness. More notes in the review below.

Thanks again to @smanson56 for an excellent box. I thoroughly enjoyed each and every beer!

I have some chores to do around the house, but may be back with another this evening. Hope there is a great beer in your glass today!

Greetings, fellow NBSers, and thanks to @cavedave for getting us going this December morn.

28 degrees (the warmest day for about a week) in eastern Washington. Speaking of Eastern Washington, they won their playoff matchup with Richmond in one-sided fashion in an undoubtedly miserable game played in snow at 19°F. Next week Youngstown St. comes to town. No disrespect to the Spiders, but with a name like the Penguins I suspect YSU are a little more attuned to such weather.

Starting off by begging the court's indulgence. I was going to drink this for last NBS, but a catastrophic hangover meant I had to wait until the following day to hit it, an Imperial Stout brewed in Airway Heights, WA:

Brewed with Dominican cocoa nibs, Snowplough is at the lighter end of the style at 8% abv, but was well balanced despite the sweet adjunct ingredient. It won't replace Goatnik as favorite local Imperial Stout, but it's not bad, and perhaps will be easier to get a hold of.

Later on today I'll be hitting a pale ale from a couple states south of me, unless I decide to brave the snowy, slippery heights to the south of me and get a fill of something at Growler Guys.

Congratulations on your son's victory, and may his record stand for a long time.

Now on to the main event - New Beer Sunday. My plan for today was to do NBS from Wisconsin. That was the plan before the forecast changed to snow yesterday into today. Damn snow! So, NBS is here, at home.

For the starter, it is a beer that @custer sent me, and, damn, is it ever good.
Yellow Rose SMaSH IPA from Lone Pint Brewery in Magnolia, Texas. It is a very delicious, well balanced IPA. Delicious, and refreshing. I will enjoy drinking EVERY drop of it. I was just shaking the bottle over my glass to get every drop out, it's that good. So, yeah, a good way to start NBS.

    4.44/5 rDev +0.7%
    look: 4.5 | smell: 4.25 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.5 | overall: 4.5

This pours a murky golden color - lots of carbonation bubbles in the beer. The head is extremely thick - 4 finger, and frothy white. The nose has the nice citrusy smell associated with a good IPA. The taste is, once you get through the head, is wow! Citrus, but not too bitter. somewhat mellow, but it works very well together. The feel isn't watery at all. Solid beer from this brewery, and gad I was able to get a bottle of this to enjoy, because I am.

See you all for the next one in a bit. Cheers.

Oh, oops, forgot about the opening question. I really don't have a strong opinion on can vs glass. I do, however, prefer my bigger beers in a smaller format. A good example of this is Avery Rumkin. It comes in a 12 oz bottle, and that is perfect for me. Any bigger, and it wouldn't have been as much fun to drink. I know it won't happen, but I wish GI woud return the BCBS to the 12 oz bottle, and, of course, GET SOME IN MY AREA NEXT YEAR!

See you all in a bit.

I love the name of that beer, and I appreciate more than you can imagine what you say about the serving temp of the beer. We went out last night to a place that has a very good tap list - and they are proud to serve you a very good beer in a very chilled glass. When I ask for a glass that's not chilled, they look at me like I'm asking to see an original copy of the Magna Carta.

    New Euro Pale Lager Sunday

Hello all and happy New Beer Sunday. I used to frequent these parts back around 2007-2009, but I'm sure there are few left who remember me.

Well, it's cold in central NJ. We're probably going to see a wintry mix tonight, with a chance of actual snow on Wednesday. Happy to be inside.

While I was out shopping yesterday, I encountered this Polish lager that I'd never as much as heard of before. It was only $2 for a sturdy half-liter bottle, so into the basket it went. When I got home and looked at BA, it turns that it wasn't just new to me, but pretty much everyone on this site, as well. It has a grand total of one rating.

Lager Cieszynski from from Browar Zamkowy Cieszyn in Cieszyn, Poland.

A little research turns up that the town of Cieszyn is right on the border of the Silesia-Moravia region of the Czech Republic. The back label indicates that their beers are lagered in a 19th century brewery cellar.

The front label promises "straw color" and "ample white foam," as well as "classic flavor." All that a flat 5% ABV. Let's pour it out and see.

Well, the appearance certainly matches the description. Great clarity. Billowing foam that threatens to escape the glass entirely. As you'll see in a moment, the foam makes for some rather nice lace after a few sips.

How about the nose? I think the back label's understated claim of "pleasant" fits rather well. It's very light and grassy. A hint of flowers, maybe lavender. The slightest intimation of spice.

The flavor follows the aroma in its delicacy. A little bit of dry, cracker-like malt. The hops are subtle, but slightly spicy. I get a little bit of what could be described as black pepper. The finish is just bitter enough to invite another sip. Very clean fermentation with no off-flavors.

Carbonation is high and the whole thing is rather spritzy. It's very refreshing. I don't know when it was bottled, but the best-before date is 10/22/17, so if they give it the relatively common year, it's a reasonably fresh sample. It certainly tastes pretty fresh.

It's a good beer and a good value. I'd definitely buy it again.

Agreed completely. It was very impressive, and so easy to drink - in a way too easy, because I already finished it. I didn't see this beer when I was in Padre back in February, but if I would have, I'm sure I would have bought one, and got another to bring home with me.

    Damn impressive beer.
