Seeing that this is a stout thread and not just a BA stout thread, Imperial End of Days hit the northern burbs yesterday and is pretty solid. Solid enough to buy a second bottle.

I may have to try this again cause I remember actively disliking it last year, which is rare for me with Pipeworks beers

I wasn't crazy about it last year either, but this batched changed my mind. Not as overwhelming as PW's usual adjuncts.

Having dosvidanya vanilla right now, tasty but I think I prefer the regular. Also going to crack my bottle of rye when I get home.

Not sure what OP is getting after with the term "release." If you're looking for over-hyped events with lines to sell more beer than normal, then I'm not your person.

However, if you're looking for non-BA stouts/porters that are easy to come by and probably better than some of these events/beers (and Chicago brewed, I assume) I'd try: Lagunitas Imperial Stout, Hailstorm Vlad, Arrowhead Devil's Breakfast, Revolution Eugene, Flossmoor Station Pullman Brown, 18th St. Hunter/Black Exodus/Forman. I also seem to remember Spiteful's GFY Stout was pretty good, but it's been an age since I have had it.

Outside Chicago area brewers, but easily obtainable, my favorites are Deschutes Obsidian, Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald, Deschutes Black Butte.

If you want BA stouts/porters (seasonal): Black Butte Anniversary, Revolution Deth's Tar come to mind. Easy to find and delicious.

Well after having the rye I must say I really prefer the normal bottling. It is just so chocolaty and rich, the spiciness of the rye kinda kills it for me and the vanilla mutes it too much.

Not sure what you meant by your "response", but the OP mentioned less obvious/big name. So, I think that is pretty easy to interpret as not being over-hyped events with lines. Of course, I'd probably argue whether anything is over-hyped...it's all appropriately hyped depending on who you are.

    Nicely done!

On a side note, anyone that likes their stouts adjunct loaded should check out Am I A Hipster by hailstorm....

I have seen that and was intrigued, but am trying to show some purchasing restraint for awhile.

Metal Monkey in Romeoville just released their Barrel Aged Asmodeus and I think it's delicious. A blend of 3 barrels. Heaven Hill, Wild Turkey and Buffalo Trace.

The release was yesterday and still has some today.

When are people expecting MCC to hit stores?

According to their twitter it's supposed to be sometime this week. I'm surprised at the rather subdued amount of excitement for this beer this time around. I know they just celebrated their big day over the weekend, but even the trade forums seem mute with interest.

I doubt this will translate to the bottles being easier to pick up, but maybe

Is non-BA MCC a big deal? I'm genuinely asking; I liked it when I tried it a year ago (or whenever it first hit), but ever since the BA version came out, my interest has been solely on that one, so I don't follow the non-BA version's hype-o-meter. I was always surprised how crazy people got about non-BA Abraxas for the same reason.

Good point! For some reason I assumed it was going to be barrel aged
