Good morning, all, and Happy Day of the Dark! The weather report this morning is calling for overnight temperatures to drop to 15 to 25 below tonight, with wind chills to 40 below. In other words, it's here. Why fight it? Might as well celebrate it!

Good Morning BA, have a great Saturday! I have some delicious stuff lined up to start off my Day of the Dark this morning. Hope everyone stays warm out there, I am cold lol. We are supposed to get quite a bit of snow up here again, but then it is supposed to warm up a bit next week. Weird weather patterns.

Fantastic as usual. Flavors of big toasted coconut, milk chocolate, cocoa, caramel, vanilla, cream, toffee, dark bread, and light coffee. Light balancing roast bitterness against sweetness; with an awesome creamy/silky medium body; light touch of sticky/chalky roast character and dryness. I am pretty much certifiably addicted to coconut beers at this point. I've been drinking a lot of the Blackrocks Coconut Brown and Arcadia Porter Rico in the last few months, along with this.

Excellent American stout! Flavors of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, cinnamon, raisin, nutmeg, vanilla, caramel, toasted dark bread, and brown sugar; with lighter notes of coffee, toffee, smoke, and charred grains. Moderate roast/char and piney/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced malt creaminess, chalky roast/spice, and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Light-moderate increasing dryness from bitterness. I like this just about as much as the base beer for the most part, but it has some really obvious differences. It seems to remove all late hopping and replace with the spice/flavor instead; since you still get the bitterness. Feels less aggressively roasty/bitter; in favor of the spice and toffee/vanilla notes. More residual sweetness, which helps showcase the flavoring better. Will definitely keep grabbing more singles.

Outstanding as always, glad the Dark Horse stouts are back in season. Flavors of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, toasted dark bread, and light smoke/char malt; with moderate juicy/lightly tart blueberries. Balanced bittersweet creamy/silky medium-full body finish; bit of chalky roast and fruit acidity as well. Lightly drying from roast. More pronounced fruit in the nose, but still a nice amount in the taste. Very well balanced. Love this stuff every year. This is still probably the best fruited stout I've ever had, after 5 years since I first tried it. The whole Dark Horse stout series is so awesome(with Plead being world class of course).

Just passed the "Best After" date last week, so I decided to break this one out for the occasion. Tasting incredible! Flavors of huge dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, caramel, toffee, cherry, licorice, vanilla, toasted dark bread, smoke, and charcoal; with underlying notes of oak, red wine, raisin, tobacco, and peppery/piney hops. Moderate roast/char and piney/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Full bodied creamy/silky/slick mouthfeel; with a fair amount of sticky/chalky roast and hop notes. Increasingly drying roast/char/hop bitter finish. Dangerously smooth sipping. I am still pretty much just as amazed as I remember from April 2013. I had a 2011 vintage for my 1400th beer review at that time. I just hit 4900 last night. Incredible depth and complexity all around.

    Cheers!

Good morning, BAs! I'm unprepared for this year's edition of Day of the Dark, due to work scheduling. I think I'll just have to get started with this:

    Sunday Mole Stout

Yes, yes, I know; it's not Sunday yet, and it's one of what's sure to be many snow pics today. It's up to a balmy 27 degrees here, and the snow is lovely, so I'm going to enjoy it.

Last night ran a little late, so I didn't get a chance to check in at the virtual bar. Apparently, I made a subconscious decision that every beer I drank would be big, dark, and aged in bourbon barrels. :grimacing:

Big Bad Baptist - so glad to see this beer in CT now!

Backwoods Bastard - always a treat

BCBS - one of those beers where, as a general rule, if I see it on tap, I order a glass

Great night out on the town(s) with friends. Today looks to be much lower key.

    Cheers, BAs!
