You bet, you can't clean a decade a sweat, stink and BO out of any locker room. It's there forever, it's why with Funky beers I make funny faces drinking them.

That's retro right there, my wife thinks that it's one of the stupidest movies ever made, but I laughed. I also like Beavis and Butthead Do America, and Dumb and Dumber.

Damn @LeRose you're in early today. But I gotta tell you, you guys did some great work. I've been reading your posts for a while now, and have been a tad curious as to what these projects "looked like." Gotta say, those floors are gorgeous.

Good Afternoon BA's today I will get started with a beer I have been waiting to try, local bottle shop got it a case of these, Christmas and Pirate and I bought as many as I could sneak in the house without my wife catching me!! A friend had tried this and thought it was a little too sweet but after trying it I think balance of the sweetness and the whiskey is spot on.

Appearance 4.25 - Pours deep dark black like motor oil, thin mocha colored cap spotty lacing all around the glass

Aroma 4.25 - Very sweet milk chocolate, lots of vanilla, the whiskey is noticeable in the aroma.

Taste 4.5 - Great flavors, the vanilla and whiskey are very well balanced. Milk chocolate, warming whiskey just a great combination of flavors.

Feel 4.25 - Thick and rich coats your mouth great warming from the whiskey

Overall 4.35 - I really loved this beer, the sweetness mixed with the whiskey is amazing.

My wife would have a difficult time deciding which of the movies I like is the dumbest (since she would claim the list is so loooong).:flushed:

My guess is she would say Borat. That movie got 4 stars from the Philadelphia Inquirer movie critic and we saw that movie in the theater on the first day of its release. I laughed so hard throughout that movie tears were coming out of my eyes. She just grimaced throughout the movie and on more than one occasion she muttered she was going to leave (but she didn't). She got here revenge by making me go see the movie The Queen at the theater; that was a well produced movie but it was sooooo boring.:grimacing:

We no longer go out to the movies together.

    Cheers!

P.S. We did go out to the movies a few years ago when Hurricane 'something' knocked out our power for 3-4 days and we wanted to go someplace that had heat.:grinning:

Thank you, sir! They are Eucalyptus, engineered renewable hardwood, lock and click but half inch thick floating floor. Ongoing labor of love with this house. It was my maternal grandparent's home and I kinda grew up here. i have learned a lot about restoration, and really know my limitations as a result. This last room was over my head (literally since I have an issue with heights) so time to support the economy and finish things right.

Kitchen before, in process of tile floor demo... It always looks hopeless in progress and it is easy to get discouraged, then the great light shines when it all comes together.

    After, painting in progress.

My second and last new beer of the day, Grimm's Light Year DIPA. An 8% abv brew... Golden body of ale with a slight haze under a fluffy white head. Big citrus aromas foreshadow the creamy sweet grapefruit bath that follows. Medium-light body is soft and plush. Citrus is bright and fresh, bringing the aforementioned grapefruit aspects, underscored with hints of lime candy and white grape. Super-drinkable with a clean finish... Features Wai-iti, Galaxy, Mosaic, and Citra hops.

Alright, that's all I got left, new beer-wise - watching some RedZone today, as usual. Football fans may want to note that the main slate of games next weekend will be on Saturday, Christmas Eve Day, with just a late and night game on Christmas Day itself. Season wrapping up quickly, with the last set of games all scheduled for New Years Day.

Alrighty, then - cheers, NBS - hope yer new beers are good to ya...

Hello new beer Sunday. I am posting from the middle of Lake Of The Woods enjoying the bounty of the hard water fishing season. We are 1 walleye away from our limit. We also enjoyed some fresh cooked fish. It is cold. -7 at the moment. it started at -25. Fun and new beer is had.

Now doing this from my phone isn't easy. Can't get pics to work. But here goes. We stopped at Bemidji Brewing and picked up a few growlers on the way up. Here is the one I brought to the fish house.

Bemidji Brewing Winter IPA. I was surprised that it was so dark. Got a delicious pine/citrus flavor. Very good choice.

Can't get the link posted. Sorry.

Very true. I've noticed that too. I'm certainly guilty of not writing reviews when I should/could have but I'm trying to be better about it, especially for beers I have a strong opinion about.

Please, you could never write too much about beer! This was a very educational post. I will follow your advice and contact both the retailer and the brewery. Not seeking any compensation or anything, just wanna find an explanation for this weird taste profile. Thanks again for the detailed response.

If you receive a response from the brewery, and you don't mind sharing, I would be interested in reading what they have to say.

    Cheers!

Dave, you have to be a hardy soul to live in the Hudson Valley, eh?

My wife frequently says to me: "Let's move to Maine!" and I quickly respond: "No!!".

I hope that you get yourself a substantial and warming beer later today.

    Cheers!

Page 2 by noon? NBSers be out early every week ... :grinning:

The arctic blast or storm or whatever it is hit Bryan-College Station last night at around 7:30 p.m. I was gassing up the car when it did and in less than 3 minutes went from comfortable as a clam in shorts, T-shirt and flip-flops (75 degrees when I went to work that day) to in bad need of real clothes. Temperature dropped 30 degrees in less than 2 hours.

One dude super happy over all this? Midnight the Cat.

    On to a new beer:
    Prairie Artisan Christmas BOMB!

I think there's a growing consensus surrounding this one, the it's good but it's not much different from regular BOMB! vote holding sway. As it warms, some of the Christmasy spice flavors show up, mainly a vague nutmeg/ginger flavor and what I swear is a little spice heat (cayenne, chile). Those flavors are very subtle with the more standard-issue BOMB! flavors of chocolate, coffee and more sweet milk chocolate serving as the major notes.

One aroma note sticks out that's not like regular BOMB!, a raisin aroma ... or a dusty abbey ale-like dark dried fruit.

    The review:
    https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/30356/137955/?ba=Premo88#review
    4.25 (+3.7% rDev)

For comparison's sake, I have regular BOMB! at 4.31 (-3.8% rDev). Makes sense to me, for I think they're almost the same beer and love them both. But the masses have it 4.1 to 4.48, which I guess means they're disappointed the Christmas version isn't more Christmasy.

Oh ... and in the interest of full disclosure, I did post a pic of this beer early this morning on the WBAYDN thread. I never do that, saving any public announcement of my New Beer Sunday beer for New Beer Sunday, but yesterday was Day of the Dark and I'd spent all day at work looking at all the cool BAs and their cool BA posts and felt a minor breach in protocol would be understood. Technically the beer was consumed and reviewed on Sunday, so hopefully the NBS gods won't punish me. :stuck_out_tongue:

    Cheers!

    Goose Island Winter Ale

I participated in a little talk about this beer in another thread and I thought I'd give it a shot. I really didn't care for it. It's a brown ale that promises some malt satisfaction and I got none. I think the malt took a vacation but left a mannequin in its chair at work to give the impression that it was still there. This beer tastes stale even though it isn't. Incorrectly or not, I see this beer as part of the retooling of Goose Island's look and lineup after the brewery purchase. I think it's a crappy replacement for Mild Winter. I'm sort of thinking that my harshness is just a case of the wrong beer at the wrong time, but I'm not gonna get another to find out.

Dry Hopped Steam Beer from Anchor Brewing. This is a very good beer, a tasty and refreshing lager with a nice hoppy finish. It's well worth trying but is not close to being as good as Anchor Steam Beer.

Yesterday we got 7 inches of snow in my area and I had to shovel out the driveway three times. Today it is raining and about 47 degrees. So maybe a couple of those 7 inches will wash away.
My New Beer Sunday contribution is Clown Shoes Hammer of the Beast from Massachusetts. It is a new release as it was made available for the first time just a few months ago. This 650 ml. was bottled on 10/31/16 - so less than two months old.

This is (get ready for it) a Barley Wine/Imperial Stout aged in rum barrels. Whoa!

It is 11.75% ABV. Dark brown with reddish hues and a mocha colored, lingering foamy head. Gorgeous to look at.

The nose is burnt malts, sweet malts, black licorice, vanilla, woody, oak, and a touch of alcohol but it is not an over-the-top boozy character. Enticing! And then, get this, it has the same black licorice, dark fruit, burnt caramel malt, barley malt mash, cellar taste with the added bonus of a warming alcohol finish. I mean REALLY warming. Too bad it is 47 degrees today. This would have been better yesterday. Medium to full body.

    Just delightful.

This is an excellent Oud Bruin, called Cuvee Freddy and brewed by Belgium's Alvinne Brewery. Not as sweet as some of the more commonly encountered Belgian oud bruins (Vichtenaar, Monk's etc) but with just about the perfect amount of astringency and oakiness. What an ugly label though. Looks like something put together in a hurry, cheaply and by an amateur. Maybe it was on purpose so that to give it a rustic, artisan feel?

On a related note, a few months ago (6 months?) one of my local beer bars had an Allagash Wild Ale on tap. For some reason I think this was a coolship brewed Wild Ale but I may not be recalling this detail correctly now. Anyway, I requested a sample pour before ordering that beer. Thank goodness I did because for my palate that beer had a significant burnt plastic aroma/flavor to it. They were selling that beer for a pretty penny too (about 7 bucks for a 12 ounce tulip glass if my memory serves me correctly). I made a comment to the bartender about the unpleasant taste and I then asked if people were happy to drink this beer. He did not respond to my question.

    Cheers!
