2016 Black Note pt Deux

Seeing this is starting to hit Detroit, single bottle limits. What are people paying per bottle?

 

I've seen them for sale at $8, $9, and $10 in Ann Arbor. (I passed on the latter two.)

 

Holiday in Royal Oak was charging $6.49//bottle.

 

Holiday in Canton was $6.99

 

BN b2 >>> BN b1, not even close IMO. Very muted Barrel presence in b1, seemed almost watery to me. B2, great Barrel, more viscous MF. Definitely more along the lines of what I've come to expect Black Note to be. If you can trade for a BA Expo or two do it, it is head and shoulders above BN.

 

Still nothing in Chicago?

 

I haven't had b2, but I was very disappointed in b1 (first time I've ever been disappointed by Black Note).

 

I'd be disappointed too having heard how great BN is, then to have b1 as my first BN experience... if you're unable to get a bottle of b2 and you're ever coming thru GR, feel free to reach out and I'd be happy to get you one. Cheers

 

I had never had Black Note, and was also disappointed in b1 earlier this year. Since I usually enjoy Bell's stuff and other batches of BN had been noted as being "better", I bought b2. I had it a few weeks ago and was disappointed as well. I didn't find hardly any barrel character in the second batch either, and I thought it was just a bit too thin/weak for what I want in a BA stout. That was just one bottle of each batch, though, so we'll see how the rest are. But, perhaps Black Note just isn't for me.

Crap, picked up 2 today and they are Batch 1. Guess I will not be seeing Batch 2 so I hope this thread has not killed my ability to enjoy them, and you guys are merely splitting hairs.

 

Batch 1 has a bottle date of 7/1/16 correct?

Yep, Green Bay got b2 Black Note on 11/30/16.

 

Shoot. Well, that doesn't bode well for my search. :-(

 

I wouldn't lose hope. As with the first batch of 2016 Black Note, Milwaukee and Madison markets generally see it later than other regional markets. Black Note finally made it throughout the rest of Michigan late last week.

 

FYI batch 1 and batch 2 have completely different packaging. batch 1 has the old caps, logo, label etc. the best way to tell batch 1 from 2 is that 2 has the new caps that look like a vinyl record.

this is currently shelf-turding in southwest michigan, I've turned it down at several places and its even being sold as entire 4 packs at grocery stores in the area.

and just out of curiosity, why does everyone prefer Batch 2? I've never had Black Note before this year but i've had both batches and prefer #1. is it because batch 2 was so much easier to find?
