Beer Karma. Is it back?

I'm sure you guys have some formula, I just would rather be able to see it or see how to get karma points, not that I even care that much about the points or even had much to begin with. I'm still fairly new here and have established a nice beer record in the year and 700 points seems nice, but the karma points just seem random now that we can't see how we got those points. I'm okay with the random points though for the most part. I just won't take it too seriously when I see points with no knowing of how people even got them. I understand that reviewing and adding things should be worth more than just making a million posts and getting a million likes. I guess I just liked it better when I knew how and why I got karma points. All good though.

 

What I mean is that the points don't matter to me. I'm not someone who is out to top everybody with beer karma. There will always be people with more karma than me, and I respect the whole community here, especially the long term contributors who are still here every week, and of course you creators and moderators of the site. A lot of people wanted beer karma back and you brought it back and that's great. I'm just one person with an opinion, and like I said I'm fine with the way it is, even though I liked it better the previous way, but we can't always get what we want and that's fine.

Not sure I understand that, but okay. I know you don't want people only contributing for the sake of getting Karma points, but I know I would contribute even more when I knew I was close; adding beers, places, photos, etc. The levels keep you motivated.

 

I want to be a Grand Poobah, damnit!

Well stated. From what little I know about 'karma' (and from what I just learned by googling the term), the usage of the word 'Karma' in 'Beer Karma' seems to work well here, in that as with traditional karma it follows the 'law of cause and effect' to an extent, such that the 'law' is not precisely known (at least not by anyone living).

Besides, where is the fun in knowing EXACTLY how the points are rewarded? Participation on this site is about enjoyment more than anything else, no?

 

Now I find myself watching it and seeing it go up by a few and wondering what it was that I did. I did have fond thoughts of a few regulars on here, maybe that's it?

 

Just enjoy the website, I lost my poobah rating, but I'm here to discuss beer. Even though I do wish I had my rating back it doesn't change how I'll contribute here.

 

so to me it seems the 'new/old' beer karma system is reminiscent to Calvinball....

please never divulge the rating scale as it's infinitely more interesting this way
