Good morning BA, Merry Christmas! Hope everyone has a great holiday today. Should be some great food and family time for sure! (and of course beer)

We have a 15 lb Prime Rib picked out for today. We seasoned it last night to sit overnight, and I am getting ready to put it in the oven soon.


Beers this morning:

Insane IPA! Flavors of big tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, passion fruit, papaya, mango, melon, lemon zest, orange peel, berry, pepper, and pine hops; with moderate honey, biscuit, light caramel malt; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus peel, herbal, and peppery bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced sticky/resinous hops and grainy/bready malts in the mouthfeel. Quite crisp. Increasing resin/rindy dryness; touch of lingering hop astringency, but not bad at all. Insanely bright/juicy on hops, and very drinkable.


Awesome as usual. This is one of my favorite American style Winter warmers of all time. Flavors of caramel, honey, brown sugar, gingerbread, toast, cinnamon, nutmeg, light clove, and light raisin/apple fruitiness. Hint of toffee. Light balancing herbal/spice bitterness against the sweetness; slightly drying from spice. Medium-full bodied; very creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel. This feels richer, fuller, and more malty than I recall last couple years. Very drinkable, mildly warming 8.3%. I prefer this over the Great Lakes by a notch, but I love both. Feels more complex overall with the bigger/richer malt presence. More dessert-like.


Mind blowing amazing! Flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, toasted dark bread, licorice, raisin, tobacco, leather, and light smoke/charred malt; with some light herbal/piney hops. Bittersweet roast balanced finish; amazing creamy/silky/slick and lush dense full body. Slight roasted dryness. I keep ended up finding more of these on the shelf, so I still have a handful left. I can only hope they bring this beer back in one form or another. This does have a lot of similarities to Expedition in flavors; but it has more of a sweeter and less drying roast/char finish. Getting even more intense on the licorice/dark fruit complexity after 16 months since release.


This year's batch is tasting amazing, just passed 1 year old last week. Flavors of big caramel, brown sugar, peat smoke, brown bread, nuttiness, toasted oak, vanilla, maple, raisin, fig, date, juniper berry, and pepper/clove yeast spice. Light-moderate herbal bitterness and spicy yeast finish; with an awesome balance of malt sweetness and yeast/oak character. Medium-full bodied creamy mouthfeel, and a touch slick/syrupy. I hope they release this again next month. Still some on the shelf now too, would definitely grab another pack soon. I have 1 left.

Merry Christmas guys. Woke up early this morning and the snow is falling! Made a coffee and decided to crack open this beauty. It'll be a hour or 2 before the kiddos wake up and then it'll be a madhouse. Enjoying a little quiet time on the couch.

Good morning all and Merry Christmas. Been cooking for about an hour now and figured it was time to enjoy an Old Rasputin. Cheers!

Wow, what an interesting beer this one is. Golden color with a lovely head and lacing. Intense aroma of freshly ground coffee, a nice flavor profile that combines maltiness, hops and of course coffee. Glad that GI decided to bring this beer back to circulation.

 

Merry Xmas BA's! Got some bourbon county and enjoy by in the queue for today. But first...
