I have had HopHands a number of different times in 2016. The most disappointing batches were the ones that had perceptible diacetyl (a buttery flavor). I had to drain pour some cans of HopHands. For those batches which did not have perceptible diacetyl some were very good and some were not so good (but still drinkable). One of my local beer bars has Tired Hands beers on tap frequently. I have gotten in the practice of requesting a sample taste before committing to a pint of Tired Hands beers (all brands, not just HopHands). The majority of the time I request a pint after taste testing those batches but more than a half-dozen times I did not request a pint. It has been my personal experience that over the past year or so there have been QC issues at Tired Hands. As to why, I really do not know. The pressures of maintaining the production schedule?

    Cheers!

Edit: When the Tired Hands beers are 'on' they are beers of beauty. I have only had one mediocre batch of Alien Church, all of the others batches have been AWESOME!!

Line is almost to the end of the second lot.
Ferm is standing room only. Making a reservation was a tremendous backup plan for not getting a spot at the bar

Finally got to try creative director and it's pretty interesting. It'd also be kinda cool to try it without the salt

2 full cases is the max allotment today. Kinda surprising. Comments are still disabled also.

It's not "obsessed with finding reasons" when all you have to do is read the TH website, their social media posts, or quotes in mass media stories. If they don't want to come across as arrogant, then they should change up their public messages - especially the over-the-top beer descriptions.

They present every beer as if it's a gift to mankind. Some of their beer is quite good, but some batches have flaws that if my homebrew had, I'd be embarrassed to serve it to my friends. Yet they are charging $20+ a 4 pack and acting like people are lucky for the chance to buy it. #dreambeer

Overly sweet IPAs? That was flawed beer 2 years ago.

Eh, bitterness levels that don't conform to "traditional" IPA levels isn't a big deal, just mis-labeled.

I'm talking about beer that appears to be "green", not conditioned long enough - excessive trub/sediment in the beer, fermentation off-flavors.

I don't think they come across as arrogant whatsoever. I love that they're enthusiastic about the beer they release, and I also like that they have an identifiable brand (outside of it being a wise marketing strategy) that some people take as some objectionable attitude. There's plenty of other choices if you want beer without any hint of pretense.

Who were you replying to - me or @breslinp ? Use the "reply" function or it just seems you are trying to be passive aggressive.

If directed at me - I don't get your analogy. It's not a matter if I care if they are having "fun" or not. Tired Hands is a businesses, they should probably be trying to attract customers, not put them off.

Every time they describe a beer as precious, otherwordly, transcendental, triumphant,
    psychedelic, highly meditative
, etc. its a big turn off. And I can only hear about how "intensely" something is hopped so many times. Don't insult my intelligence as a consumer - it's still beer, saying that shit doesn't make it worth twice as much.

Wound up showing up. Painless five minute wait. Sample of new mango DIPA was incredible.

I fully understand your 'reaction' here since I also share some of your thoughts here.

OK, with that out of the way. These 'tag lines' resonate immensely with many of the Tired Hands customers. This verbiage gets them excited. So excited in fact that they will expend hours of their time in order to purchase these beers. They are spending these hours either in line or by setting up their chairs hours in advance of release time and then they go into the brewpub and drink many beers (and eat food too?) and come out later to get in line to pay BIG BUCKS for several 4-packs (or a whole case) of Tired Hands beers.

I am pretty confident in stating that this 'marketing approach' is not something that is effective on you but hundreds of beer customers get rabid with this stuff.

There is no denying that Tired Hands is making a lot (and I do mean a lot) of money using this verbiage.

    Cheers!
