I'm visiting the Houston area for Christmas and, having drank a lot of YR on previous visits, was excited to see it now available in 500ml bottles. And I was far more excited when, on Christmas Eve at an HEB in The Wodlands, I found four packs of YR with bottle dates of 12/20. Talk about fresh!

But I gotta say, something is amiss. I've just opened my third bottle from this four pack, and like the previous two, the beer is flat, lacking any bit of head, and just tastes (and smells) bland. It's a big disappointment. I wanted to see if anyone else has had the same experience with the new bottle formats. I've read they have a new bottling line and wonder if that's the reason.

Curious if any of you have experienced this too.

I have picked up about 4 of these 4 packs on different occasions, and they have all been great!! I even picked up a 4 pack that was dated 12/20, and there were no problems.

I've always found YR to be slightly different batch to batch. Head retention has never been great in my mind either

I have had tons of Yellow Rose since it has been in the 500ml four packs and have never had an issue. I hardly ever got the 750 bottles cause I did come across a lot of inconsistencies. I have not found that in the new format though. Yellow Rose and 5 O'Clock Pils are always in my fridge.

The 12/06 bottling was unreal. Like as good as and if not better than Tree House and Trillium good. But the 12/12 was a huge step down. There's still so much variation with this beer.

The 12/6 batch was great. This most recent batch was a little different, I didn't notice much in the variation of the carbonation though.

I've found the last 2 batches to be a shell of what Yellow Rose normally is, so you aren't alone OP.

It's damn near impossible to find in bottles around DFW. I haven't seen it in months.

I went the Pale Mosaic or Community Mosiac as well but I love those YR bottles for my home brew.

I've had two 4-packs of the bottles dated 12/19 and they were really quite good. It had been several years since I had any, back when it was just started being bottled in 750's (which were really dicey). Either my memory has faded, or it got quite a lot better in that time.

I've only had growler fills for awhile. Tasting great to me.

I was excited to get some while at JK earlier this month, and more excited to bring it back and share with my friends up here. It was a late November bottling (I think), and it was very different from what I know as YR. The flavors were extremely muted to the point it seemed like a pale ale. Definitely not what I hoped for and not what I had told all my boys to expect. Sad feels.

I hate to say it, but YR has been so inconsistent. I was buying again in October but got burned too many times.

I've been in this situation way too many times also, hyping it up to friends visiting and shit, then end up getting a semi-off batch and the reaction is like "eh, its good, but..."

The 12/20 bottles are as you described here, muted flavors and basically like a higher abv pale ale. Earlier Dec bottling was effing amazing

I agree with the OP, I picked up two four packs dated 12/20 and all eight bottles have near zero carbonation. Smell and taste were a bit off as well.

Very disappointing since I was going to send some to family members in Maine. Guess I will wait for a new batch.

Email or call the brewery and let them know. Having been there a few times, I think they'd want to know there's an issue, so they can try to rectify it next batch. The main owner/brewer I've talked to there is super cool (everybody there is super cool, in fact) and doesn't want to ship out inferior beer.

Sorry to hear about the inconsistency ... I've had no issues with Lone Pint bottles nor Yellow Rose, but it happens.

I had a 12/19 bottle last night and I think those are still good. Satisfying, although I'm sure draft is better. I saw 12/20 bottles at an HEB up North of town (Cypress) and passed.

I caved and took a shot at bottles again. The 1/3 batch is good stuff.
