I did and I hate driving in the rain. Saw some wonderful driving skills on my way there. Also I realized that when it rains it seems san diegans prefer to drive their white car with no headlights on.

But the framboise, expo (fresh batch apparently) and ba odin's on draft at the brewery.

Looks like HFS is going around. Anyone know if this is Alpine or GF brewed?

Does anybody really know these days what's ABC or GF?

If it's getting any sort of significant distribution (in quantity, not necessarily distance), it's not Alpine.

If it's a distro'd bottle or can that says "brewed in San Diego," then it's GF - supposed to be, at least. (If I misread your question as an earnest one, then my bad.)

I'm pretty sure HFS is GF bottled.

You basically need to go to Alpine in Alpine to get the non-GF bottles they produce. I think most people don't realize that you can still get good beer for them, you just have to make the trip out there to get it.

Alpine brewed and bottled PH is still amazing, just wish they'd brew and bottle a batch of OG Nelson someday.........sigh

    Cheers,

Looks like all the unattpd check ins are draft up on the hill, and I only know of one other place that has it, so could be OG.

And yes, I agree that the lack of OG Nelson is maddening. Like they can't use hops allocated for GF Nelson for one batch?

I wonder what it is that makes GF brewed Alpine taste so much different than true Alpine. They all have that distinct Green Flash house flavor that instantly knocks world class beers down to an average level. At first I thought it was because maybe they use the GF house yeast strain but they claim the recipes are exactly the same which I assume would include the same yeast Alpine uses. The water source is surely different and water is the main ingredient. Could that affect the flavor that much? If so they need to start trucking that Alpine mountain spring water over to Mira Mesa. Whatever it is they need to get it dialed in, they really fucked up a great opportunity to dominate the IPA market.

At this point I don't think GF is too worried about sales to us old-timers who miss the "real" Alpine.

My thought was GF house yeast too. Can anyone confirm they're using an ABC yeast strain?

They need to do this and they need to call it Not Not Nelson.

Green Flash is all about money. Alpine is (was) all about beer. It's over. Get over it and move on.

Mikkeller San Diego releasing 4pk cans of rye ipa w/ Nelson collab brewed by Alpine, Arts District, and MikkellerSD.

Perhaps a small return of OG Nelson? I hope...plz....

Edit: Oh yeah, dates would help. Releasing it this saturday 1/21 at opening. If Viking Club member we can purchase the day before I think starting at 5pm.

    This sucks... :slight_frown:

In an update since we went to press (see below), we have learned a few more tidbits regarding Green Flash Brewing’s recent changes. We have reached out to Green Flash Brewing, a company we’ve worked very closely with for nearly ten years, and are now not hearing word back. That is the benefit of being a private company, there is no obligation to share the bad news.

    • Alpine Beer Company in Alpine, CA has temporarily halted production for the past month.
    • Alpine Beer Company terminated assistant brewer Kevin Brown, who was one of Alpine’s original employees, even prior to the Green Flash acquisition.

Kinda sad. Years ago a production halt at Alpine would've brought this forum to a screeching halt. Now it's 2 posts in 3 days.
