Happy New Year BA's, all the best in your beery adventures for 2017!

Kicking off the year with Stone: Xocoveza, my favourite beer of the year just gone. (Those 4 pints I put away after midnight last night don't count) Brewed 12/21/15. Been holding onto this one for a while, but it's held up well. Can't wait to try this years canned batch from Berlin. CHEERS!

 

Good morning BA, have a great New Year’s Holiday! I had originally planned on seeing the ball drop last night, but the live music was so terrible I just turned it off and went to sleep. Woke up before my alarm like clockwork. I felt a bit burned out on stouts last night, so I threw some fruit beers into the fridge from the cellar.

Been a while since I had a Bastard. This is still awesome! Flavors of big grapefruit, orange peel, citrus rind, pepper, and piney hops; with balancing sweetness of caramel, brown sugar, toffee, brown bread, toasted biscuit, and light nutty/chocolate malts; with some light raisin/fig dark fruits and herbal/grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine/rind/spicy bitterness. Medium-full bodied; balanced bready creaminess and sticky/resinous hops in the mouthfeel. Increasingly drying, but never astringent on resins. Really awesome balance and complexity. Need to get this again soon.


2013, self aged since release. This is an awesome sour! Flavors of huge tart/sour raspberry, strawberry, cherry, lemon, green apple, fruit skin, almond, hay, straw, pepper, funk, vanilla, and oak; with some lighter notes of leather, red wine vinegar, and wheat/bready malts. Nice lactic sourness and spicy yeast/tannic oak finish. Medium-plus bodied; very acidic/tannic mouthfeel, with a fair amount of balancing grainy wheat creaminess. Moderately puckering and drying, but not overwhelming. A touch of warming from the 7.7%. This has aged amazingly! Great barrel presence and wild/lactic complexity. Nice solid malt balance from the bigger ABV.


2015 is still tasting amazing! Flavors of big tart/juicy raspberries, raisin, red grape, plum, apple, pepper, candi sugar, and toasted bread; with some herbal hops and yeast earthiness. Balanced fruit tartness and peppery yeast spice on the finish against malt sweetness. Medium-full bodied; very smooth, fairly crisp, and lightly slick/syrupy mouthfeel; and a fair amount of grainy/bready creaminess. Good dryness from fruit acidity and yeast spice; never too sweet. Highly drinkable. We just got more of these around lately; need to go grab a few more. This shows great balance of Belgian style character, without just being a straight up over the top fruit beer. On a side note, I love that Rubaeus is year round. This is basically just the imperial Belgian version. One of my favorite fruit beers of all time. I wouldn’t mind Cerise coming back either.

After a short hiatus (from the thread, not beers), came back to wish WBAYDNers a Happy New Year. Four month old apparently forgot how to sleep and this has torpedoed not only sleeping and exercise routine, but drinking. Slept two hours last night, but here I am. Couple from OH coming at you.

 

What time is it? It's 2017 that's what time it is.

My wife and I had a low-key evening. I watched two one-sided football games, then we watched When Harry Met Sally, a perfect New Years Eve movie. Champagne toast, then bed.
A little Breakfast Stout to start the day, then on to some cooking.

 

Wife's family coming over later, so there's no time to let up on drinking now. But I will dip the ABV momentarily and hit up this sesh offering from Interboro, an extra from a recent trade. Still pops after the OH IPAs, despite its smaller stature. Prolly should have led with this. Cheers and beers in this New Years.



And more RTJ3 because, like the beer, it's only a week old.
