A shame though. High schools usually only offer French or Spanish, except in some geographical areas. College/universities usually have limited language opportunities as well, as well as having fewer requirements for foreign languages. When I was taking post-graduate courses, my uni decided to drop German from the curriculum and cut staff in the modern languages department (However, some Arabic language courses have since been added). Swedish, Norwegian, or other Nordic/Baltic languages were never an option. The US has been too language ego-centric for entirely too long. In this country you're looked upon as a novelty (or worse) if you desire to speak anything but AmerEnglish. Rant over. Back to beer!

Yeah, but there are about 400 million people in the US and Britain, less than 10 million Swedes. So it's understandable, but sure, it never hurts to know more than one language.

And, as January 24, 2017 approaches, and we get another day closer to the New Edition biopic, as well as them getting their star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, I reminisce on one of my favorite songs they ever did, albeit without Bobby. Get 'em, Ralph.

I told her I'd never fall in love, but now I know better.

When I go to Boston, I'll just sit in public places reading a book in Swedish, just to see the reaction!

OK, after the heresy in my previous post, time to continue:

No longer brewed but I managed to snag the last two cases at my local distributor a few months back. Outdated (BB 10/03/15) but still highly drinkable. I wish I had a couple more cases!

This goes back to the colonization of Africa by the European major powers that were the English and French. The Spanish, Dutch and Portuguese too, to a degree.

I'd love to speak more than 2 languages. Because while I can write English not so bad, I still miss out a number of words and expressions. I feel less lost when I'm somewhere where people don't speak French at all, that's the main pros of knowing some English.

I would say I'm fluent in English, but would love to have at least a basic grip of French... guess it's time to study!

It's kind of embarrassing when I travel in Europe that many of the people I meet speak better English than some of my neighbors who were born here.:grimacing:

Haha. In all modesty, an American who was granted citizenship 50 years ago told me that I write better English than some Americans, good for the ego. But you know, I'm sure some French speaking people are dummies compared to an educated American who's learned French in college and traveled a bit.

Id guess everyone has different goals in life. I don't blame people who speak only one language... they may be a lot better than me in other activities or hobbies.
