Hiking was an example. Are you sure these parents haven't spent quality and beneficial time with their kids all day?

LIkewise and I doubt it is either of our intentions.

Sorry, I was unclear. I was commenting in general that people seem to be overstating how bad the lines are for kids - the best example of that was when someone (not you) said it bordered reckless endangerment.

    Apologies for the confusion created.

It's not something I would do either. I also won't try to convince you that it isn't lame. However, I certainly do not think bringing a kid to a beer line makes you an awful parent as some (again, not you) have suggested.

As I said before, I am not a fan of kids at breweries in the first place but I am also not passing judgment on their ability to parent because I don't like their decision to bring their kid to a brewery.

I just think its unfair to assume the parents in these lines have not done anything productive, beneficial, etc. with their children just because you saw them in line at Monkish for an hour.

I am not saying that waiting at Monkish is better than a hike, play in the park, etc... but waiting in line also doesn't preclude a parent from doing all those things also.

You never know... maybe. And, if even they don't remember it as a fond memory, chances are waiting in line didn't irreparably harm them psychologically or physically.

I mean, there are a lot of things my parents included me in that I thought was boring as all hell at the time and I do not consider a fond memory.

to me it doesn't make a difference. spending 3-4 hours in a parking lot / tasting room drinking beer and dragging your kid along is, in my opinion, a lame activity to engage in with your kid period.

let's be real though, do you think the types of parents bringing their kids to these releases are spending the rest of their day in extracurricular enrichment programs? if you had to put money on it

Jesus Christ Finnish Fox, are these people that bring their kids to wait in line at beer releases really worth your unyielding defense? Honestly, I think they are crummy parents. When you become a parent, you absolutely should not have to give up who you are, what you like, your individual personhood, etc, but when you become a parent, you make a conscious decision (or I guess in many cases not conscious) to sacrifice parts of yourself, of your time, of your money, of your energy. That's just the deal. And if you can't give up waiting in line for beer at an industrial park in Torrance, then honestly, that's a tragedy.

Also, I have no clue what the correlation between this and having a M-F, 9-5 job is. How does one have any bearing on the other?

Fair enough. Also, it was an hour wait for anyone that showed up at open (and not before).

Such a baited question... there is no way to answer this question in any way that actually means anything.

I don't even know what you mean by "the types of parents that bring their kids to these releases"... you mean parents that like craft beer?

I agree with what you've said in general, I just don't agree that waiting in a Monkish line meets the criteria or threshold to make them crummy parents. Or that it is to a degree that your "selfishness" has put your child's health and well-being at risk.

    We happen to disagree.

People seem to be whining a lot about the quality time these kids get with their parents without any inkling of what that family is actually like.

Someone who is at Monkish at 4pm on a Tuesday did not necessarily come from work only to stop off at daycare to pick their kids up and show up in line. Some people do not work on Tuesday, might have spent a wonderful day with their kids and then happened to go get some beers with their kids in tow.

I don't know if bringing a kid to a parking lot is child abuse but forcing a kid to read FinnishFox's multi-quoted posts in this thread would be

At the end of the day, the kid could just stay with the parent not waiting in line, but I guess that's where I had issues, in that these parents are so devoid of common sense and tact that they choose to both go to a release to maximize the amount of allotment they get instead of the best conditions for the child to stay at home with one parent.

In the situations like the video, it was pretty clear that father of the year saw the release, called up mom who was at home with the kid and told them to go down to Monkish to get dad some trade fodder. Which is indeed going against the best interest of the child.

    It isn't exactly harmful, either.

Think it becomes "endangerment" when, you know, the kid is in actual danger.

Does anyone know if kids are allowed at Monkish? Have plans to take them to Disneyland next week, but if there's a Monkish can release I'll be calling an audible.

The real question is if it's bad parenting to drop your kid off instead of a lawn chair as a place holder. I'm not sure if this child in front of me is just really new money or if he's just anchoring for his dad as he gets down there from work.

Offer him candy for his spot in line - if he's new money, he'll turn you down.

Damn, and I thought Other Half / Grimm threads went off topic at times....

Apologize if I'm intruding on what seems to be a heated discussion of the acceptability of children on beer can release lines (really?), but just wondering how the most recent batch of Foggy Window is tasting (esp compared to the last batch).

    Thanks!

It is just mind boggling to me that any rational thinking adult can argue that bringing children anywhere that the sole purpose is to consume alcohol is in any way positive. I also believe that any parent that does opens themselves up to criticism and should really check there priorities. To think that this action is not very telling of there level of parenting skills or lack there of is just being naive.

Didn't have Foggy in cans last time, only draft... and I wish I could give you a comparison but it was so long ago and I've had so many Monkish beers I can't recall.

I did crack a can from this most recent batch yesterday (same day as canning) and it was delicious. One of my faves so far. I only expect it to get better of the next week or two.

This is obviously a pro-Monkish only thread and everything negative will be pruned by tomorrow. If it doesn't fit into FinnishFox's and JayORear's definition of constructive, it gets deleted.
