Let me start by saying that there are an amazing number of really good beers available in today's world. We who enjoy beer truly have an abundance of riches from which we can choose. One person's gold is another person's junk and how lucky are we to have such choices to meet our diverse tastes?! There is really something for everyone.

I am a huge fan of several breweries, The Bruery being one of them and, admittedly, one of my favorites. I have now had White Chocolate a few times....under different circumstances and with different groups of people, and I've formed the recent opinion that perhaps....at least for me...White Chocolate is my "beer of 2012."

It is not what I expected. I expected a dark, black, thick and rich "Black Tuesday" clone of sorts. I expected thick, chocolate and sweet. Instead, I got a dark golden beer that may well be one of those perfect beers. Again, this is all my opinion but I liken it to Westy 12....a beer for all reasons. Westy 12 is one of those perfect beers that goes with everything from a tar tar appetizer to chocolate cake. Or, it's perfect by itself. I think White Chocolate is in the same league.

I've had White Chcolate by itself, with lots of different foods and with desserts and cigars. I've had it as an appertif and as a dessert.

Today, I served it to one of the many wine and food groups to which I belong. We had a wine tasting lunch and tasted a number of different wine varietals. I opened a White Chocolate with dessert and with coffee. The group flipped. The chef liked it so much he ran to the kitchen and "whipped up" a duck dish that he said he had to try with this beer. Suffice it to say we then had a whole new "tasting menu" with one of Los Angeles' premier chefs and our White Chocolate. The chef was so excited he served us tasting portions of duck, lamb and three different pasta courses...all of which he wanted to try with the White Chocolate. (He wants to know where he can buy it! I told him good luck!)

Suffice it to say that the White Chocolate went very well with all dishes and was the hit or our lunch and wine tasting!

Black Tuesday is wonderful and has consistently gotten lots of hype and is still greatly liked and desired (and deservidly so!). HOWEVER, White Chocolate is not only delicious but very drinkable and far more universal. The flavors just grow, and change and match just about everything. (One of my friends took one of my bottles home insisting that he had to serve it tomorrow night at a dinner with an apricot dish he's preparing!)

My conclusion is that White Chocolate may sound like dessert but it may be one of those universally good brews. I'm finishing off the second bottle we opened right now with a cigar. Hey! It goes! This is one of those beers that has scores that simply do not reflect how good this beer is.

JMO but I'm sticking to it!

I don't trade very often and I don't sell. I drink it or give it away to tastings. And, no. I just bought my allocation like everyone else.

Hey, I got no explanation for my expectations. It was just my expectations founded on nothing but specuation. Then, I tried it..... the reset is in my original post. What can I say?

No need to say anything, but it has the word white in its name.

I'd trade for it if I had anything worth trading for it.

I agree. Why is this? I'm certainly "guilty" of it. What's ironic...is that I don't have a real big sweet tooth. I don't eat candy, and generally speaking I'm not person that orders dessert. But for some reason, when it comes to beer...I really enjoy a nice boozy, sweet, old ale/BA stout/BA barleywine. They're damn near like cordials to me. lol

Definitely one of the best smelling beers I have ever tried.

It's definitely a better and more drinkable version of Chocolate Rain, comparing it to Black Tuesday is a bit of apples and oranges since none of the signature adjuncts that make White Chocolate what it is are present in BT. Very happy to have gotten a full allotment of WC!

I am tired of the big super sweet beers that the Bruery makes. I used to like them quite a bit, but I am over it. However, this beer surprised me. WC was quite good. I would love to make a WC float with some vanilla ice cream.

Sidenote: my beer of 2012 is Logsdon Seizoen Bretta (fucking delicious)!

I agree. I think its eminently pair-able but the price point and exclusivity make it less than universal...
