I think the issue is a lot of us are comparing VH MZ to Penultimate Push which came out a week or two before. Penultimate was pretty damn incredible, IMO. VH MZ was a pretty big let down in comparison.

I really liked VH MZ, but the only comparison for me try it on is the base which I have not opened yet.

I always find it amusing that once beers become readily available or produced in a slightly higher volume they no longer taste as good. It's one of those trends in craft beer that seems to plague every brewery these days.

Scaling up a beer is no easy task.

Exactly. Going from a 2 or 3 BBL setup, on a beer that is treated/adjunct heavy.....to 20-30 BBL system..it takes time to work through the ratios. Especially when each screw up means you're dumping 600 gallons or more.

This years Death By Coconut and BA 10/50 were phenomenal. Also, FB ramped up their production of Last Snow, Morning Wood, and others. All were just as good or better than previous version (IMO) except for Last Buffalo. Penultimate Push was made in increased volume this year and it was out of this world good. No idea what happened to VH MZ but it was just a meh beer for me. I do agree w/ your statement though. Typically that seems to be how people respond regardless if it's an incorrect perception or truth.

Different strokes. I thought DBC and BA 10/50 sucked. Morning Wood and Last Buffalo however were extra delicious. Was glad to see them in this area for a change, especially Last Buffalo. That shit is crack.

Can't agree on DbC, but BA 1050 was if anything much, much improved this year. Thought it was a thin, boozy mess a few years ago; enjoyed it this time.

I agree with DBC and BA 1050. I have the rum and Java versions as well and they were very well done. OB has been killing the BA stuff lately.

Different strokes for sure. Not even sure what to say to this. Wow.

Not everyone has the same tastes. I thought BA TenFidy and DBC were both very thin and nothing special. I think DBC is way too over the top coconut for my taste and have never been a fan. I drink a lot of BA stouts and coconut beers and like them very much but was underwhelmed with both of these offerings. Maybe I am being a bit hard on them but compared to say, Cycle Trademark Coconut or Last Buffalo, they came in at 1.5 yawns. I am aging some BA 10/50 in hopes it improves but I think even Huna 15 kicks its ass.

    Your mileage may vary.

The first rule of beer geeks: as soon as Cigar City is available to us, we will no longer want it.

I like this. However i think whatt has affected this way of thinking has been the advancements in hop development first, brewing techniques 2nd and distribution availability 3rd. The first time I tasted Sweetwater IPA, I thought it was pure grapefruit juice.....in a great way. Now, in comparison to whats on the market, I find it to be malty. Still a great beer but due to other available beers, its not as appealing.

I have to retract my BA 10/50 review. Had one tonite and it is much better than I remember. Not thin and nice barrel notes. Beer can get better. But assholes are just assholes.

Indeed you are. Now if you could keep this thread on topic, that would be excellent.

Looks like CCB isn't coming to NC for now, but with OB helping with production, might make it here soon enough.

Charlotte should see ccb cans and draft this Wednesday, 3/9. We are told that all cores will be hitting our store. Come and get it! Cheers
