I'd have to say it's hard to beat Harvey's. Their Mild and Old (really a strong Mild) are both outstanding.

Who's making the best Mild where you live?

I am a BIG fan of Yards Brawler, particularly when served on cask.

    Cheers!

I'm going to pick up a 6 of Brawler the next time I spot it. I've been meaning to try it a while. Have never seen it on tap let alone on cast. The local brew pub has brewed a Mild from time to time and I always enjoyed them.

Yeesh, sadly no one where I live. Everyone once in a blue moon (not Blue Moon), I see a local brewery have a mild on cask, but it's been quite some time.

A local brewery, Bone Up Brewing had one when they first opened, I believe I had a sample of it. I sort of recall it being good, but it was mixed in with so many beers that day, who knows. I'd definitely like to try it again if they brew it in the future.

The bottled Brawler is a nice beer.

Hopefully someday you will be able to drink this beer on cask. This beer absolutely 'shines' on cask.

    Cheers!

Philly area default response: Yards Brawler

Yup... Some local brewery may have a decent mild, but in my experience always a one-time batch and complete luck if I happen on the place when it's pouring. Although, there is a slightly higher chance of a mild being on tap at Forest and Main, than most other breweries in my area. In fact, their website currently claims they have a dark mild on tap now...

Matthew from Brixton Brewery in Rochester PA is my favorite locally. I've always enjoyed Brawler and if Uncle Teddy's Bitter counts i really like that as well. Enjoyed some milds at Forest and Main before but can't remember the names. That place is great tho, i'd drink Mikes Lemonade with those folks.

Nice thread, will follow for recommendations

Yup, I have had a few Mild Ales at the Forest & Main brewpub on cask and every time they have been of high quality. We are fortunate to have some quality choices in the Philly area.

    Cheers!

I think in Texas the closest I've seen is Jester King's Commercial Suicide.

My wife and I love the beer but it's unpopular with everyone else we know.

It is different because it's aged in oak barrels innoculated with the breweries mix of wild local yeast and bacteria... But the last time I had it it wasn't a strong sour beer.

I too enjoy Uncle Teddy's Bitter on cask at the Victory brewpub. I would add to the 'list' Sly Fox Chester County Bitter at the Sly Fox brewpub. Neither of these beers are Mild Ales but we have the 'theme' of lower gravity English Ales and just as importantly cask format.

    Cheers!

No clue. Any good milds being made around Kansas City? It's a style I don't touch often, but I'd like to try more styles this year.

I read the link to see:

“English pub ale meets the French farmhouse tradition and American oak aging in this dry, drinkable farmhouse mild ale. Full-flavored, but brewed with enough restraint to be highly sessionable. Unfiltered, unpasteurized, and naturally conditioned.”

I wonder if “farmhouse mild ale” will be the next new beer style?:astonished:

    Cheers!

Please let me know how that 'works' for you.

It has been my consistent experience that British beers in the US are typically 'old and tired'. I started homebrewing over 20 years ago so that I could make my own Bitter Ales akin to the ones I drank in Britain on cask.

    Cheers!

Yup, that why Brixton's Matthew exists. My friend is the brewer and one night i got a little too loopy and went on an "old import/no local milds" rant. He started tooling with a recipe and a month or two later the Matthew was born.

I'm not saying you should go yell at your local brewer, but it worked for me.

When i serve it to friends and family, they can not believe how low the ABV is considering all of the flavor packed in there.

Post Brewing's Meathook is the only packaged mild I've seen in CO. It's pretty tasty but have only gotten it once (6 pack cans).

I am fortunate that my local breweries are making tasty English style ales already; no need for me to make a peep.

I've really enjoyed Revolution's Workingman Mild when I've had it. I don't think it's distributed...only occasionally available on tap at their locations.

I have posted in past threads about Stewarts 60 Shilling Ale:

“Stewarts 60 Shilling Ale on cask at the Yards Real Ale Festival:

    Stewarts 60 Shilling Ale: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/1754/67393

60 Shilling Ale is only 2.7% ABV but that beer has lots of flavor!”

    And,

“I did have a Stewart’s 60 Shilling Ale on cask (at a Yards Real Ale Invitational beer festival). That beer only was 2.7% ABV but it had a ‘ton’ of flavor for such a low gravity beer! It was a beer of beauty!! It is listed as being a Scottish Ale on BA but with a strength of 2.7% maybe it is close to being a ‘mild’?”

I had the pleasure to meet the brewer at a later beer event and I discussed this beer with him. I asked him whether he ever produced this beer again. With a smile on his face he shook his head. He then stated: “It took me forever to sell out that beer at the brewpub. Customers just are not willing to order a beer with so little alcohol”.

    Cheers!
