I think the bottom one is the older label.

Enjoy, it's a pretty good beer. Or at least it was in 2015 when I had a fresh bottle.

Even without the name change, the designs of those labels are a dead giveaway as to which is older.

Many years ago Black Xantus was a relatively highly sought after beer, often cited in discussions of "favorite imperial stouts," and I'm fairly certain it was on the Top 100 List. People's interest in it seems to have waned, but I doubt the beer has changed much if at all. Enjoy!

I was gifted a bottle of it when I helped a buddy of mine move. It was something I normally wouldn't buy, but I thought it was a fantastic imperial stout.

    Haha, so this.

The first time I had this stout, the main guy at a shop I used to frequent often pulled this out like it was a gold brick from under the counter and sold it to me. At the time, it was probably the best imperial stout I had ever had. I haven't had one in about 2 years but like you said, I don't know why that would change.

Humboldt beers are still brewed by Firestone Walker in Paso Robles, and Black Xantus is aged in Firestone Union barrels... so Black Xantus is kind of like Parabola's cousin? Or even Parabajava's since it's got coffee?

[IMG] Just had it last evening outstanding beer and this is the newer batch. Only warning is watch the last pour, once had a little sludge from a batch last year.

Grab one! Especially if it's $10-11! Paid $16 in GA, before we started getting their stuff here. Really solid beer.

The bottled on date is printed on every vintage. Kind of hard to see but it's there.

I've only had it a few times but any bottle I had was dated. It's a lot easier to see the thumbprint when the bottle is empty but if you play around with the liquid in the bottle you should be able to see a date. @BTT

Had this on tap a like two years ago, had no idea what it was but I was rightly impressed. Really good beer!

Yep. And up until recently the GABF medal winning Trader Joe's Mission Street beers were also contract brewed by Firestone as well.
