Transient Reserve Society

It's been canned 3 times in MI btw. Once back in August, once around Thanksgiving, and once around around Christmas.

 

Do we know if the canning at Aquanaut is going to continue for a while, or is it winding down (the way Mikerphone is no longer making beer at Une Annee)? I've liked Buckley for a while, and now with JIL I'm fully on board the Transient train, but am hoping I won't have to get off before my stop (in this case meaning having to go exclusively to MI for any Transient beer).

 

You are correct, 3 times in MI. I forgot about the cans they released in mid-November.

 

Chris has kept the original IL Reserve Society active on top of adding the new MI Society. Since all of the IL member beers need to be brewed & barrel aged in IL I would guess he'll be continuing at Aquanaut while he keeps the IL society active. Not sure how much he'll be canning/distributing out to retail from there though, it was sporadic even before he opened his spot in Bridgman.

 

I think I missed this earlier. Just to be clear, what day of the week are they open this month? Going to be in the area this weekend and hopeful to finally stop by and try some of his beers.

 

Saturdays, 12pm-8pm I believe.

 

Do we know (roughly) when the next JIL will be canned? I doubt I'd make the trek to Chicago for a 4 pack or two, but I'd at least try to trade for one then.

 

I don't think anyone knows, and my completely uninformed guess from following this thread is that it wouldn't be something that happens a lot.

 

So what does a JIL typically trade for? I'm just trying to score one can to try, since I struck out on the prior releases.

He'll still make beer for IL because of the memberships, but I wonder how much longer it will last.

The chicago release of JIL was a very welcome surprise. He really went out of his way to make that happen, when he could be focusing on his space in MI.

 

Yeah, I was pretty excited when I saw an announcement on IG about it. I'd heard great things about his beers (outside of Buckley which I've actually had), so it was pretty gratifying to grab a 4-pack of JIL.

 

I'm curious on this as well & hope Chris sees value in continuing it personally. I understand why he chose to continue the IL society after opening the MI brewery (loyalty to the IL members that helped him generate the funds to open his brewery) but it has to be difficult for him driving back & forth to CHI, presumably paying for space at Aquanaut to brew & barrel age the beer & continuing to get his MI brewery off the ground.

The current IL membership period runs from Aug 2016 - June 2017 & is to include 10-14 bottles & ~3 different releases. There hasn't been a bottle release yet for this period, assuming because the beers aren't ready yet. Looking forward to lots of barrel aged goodness over the next few months!

 

Yeah, im excited for the beers, but I wouldn't fault him one bit for focusing on the Michigan brewery.

 

Whether they leave Chicago or just find another contract brewing space, Transient would be wise to get out of Aquanaut as soon as possible. And Aquanaut would be wise to get away from their co-owner Phil Tadros as soon as possible. That guy destroys everything he touches. His employees walked out of all 10 of his coffee stores today because they haven't been getting paid. You don't want to see a situation like what happened when Ale Syndicate didn't pay their rent and lost the lease screwing over the others who brewed in their space- Arcade Brewing and Around the Bend Beer Co.

 

Maybe Transient can take over the Aquanaut brewery and have a permanent space in IL...

Last I knew, Hop Butcher also brews at Aquanaut. Hopefully they have a contingency plan as well.
