Starting the early morning with a George Howell - Guatemalan coffee Bière de Garde from local Mystic. I might like this better than Kanzu, their coffee saison. Cheers!

Good morning BA, have a great Saturday! I have 3 projects due next week after the holiday, so I am going to be working some overtime this weekend. At least I can do it at home and relax in my pajamas all weekend while doing it.

Always excellent, one of my go-to porter favorites. Flavors of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, coffee, toasted dark bread, and light nutty malts; with some light-moderate herbal/spicy hops and a hint of dark fruit. Light earthy hop and roast bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; great creamy/bready/silky mouthfeel, with some light sticky/chalky notes from hop/roast. Touch of dryness. Such a classic porter all around. Around 3 months from bottling and it feels a lot more silky and rich than I recall in the past. I love Munich malt in Porters and this has a nice amount in the grain bill. Need to go buy more soon.

Amazing DIPA! Glad I keep finding more singles of this. Flavors of huge tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; moderate honey, light caramel, and lightly toasted biscuit malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, and peppery/spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; balanced sticky/resinous hops and grainy/bready malt creaminess in the mouthfeel. Increasingly drying resin finish; minimal hop astringency. Just flat out incredible. Insanely bright and dank on hops; nice malt backbone without being sweet. Nice mix of earthy, citrusy, and tropical hop varieties.

2016 batch is tasting amazing! Almost a year old now. Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, toffee, molasses, fudge, dark bread, nutty, and light smokey malts; with touches of vanilla, dark fruits, and herbal/spicy hops on the back end. Bittersweet balanced finish; full bodied with an awesome creamy/silky mouthfeel; and lightly sticky/chalky from roast malts. Lightly increasing roasted dryness. Completely on point for an Imperial stout. Not too bitter or overly acrid/roasty; and big on malt complexity. New Holland has really been killing it lately on the stouts with the Dragons Milk variations. With this being their standard Imperial stout, this is sometimes overlooked, and is just as awesome. Feels almost like an imperial version of The Poet. Looking forward to the new batch next month. This is the best batch I have had in recent memory. Glad all of their stouts are in 4 packs now, used to only be bomber format.

Last year's batch is incredible! Flavors of big nutty dark roasted coffee, dark chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toffee, vanilla, rye whiskey, toasted oak, light charred malt. Fair amount of roasted coffee bitterness and rye whiskey/oak spiciness on the finish. Medium-full body; very creamy/silky, with a touch of sticky/chalky roast/barrel notes in the mouthfeel. Slightly drying. Never boozy, mildly warming for 12.2%. Amazing malt/barrel balance. I picked up another 6 pack of this earlier in the week, glad that they shipped out more. I almost finished the first pack I bought a month ago. I hope this is released again later this year, the price is unreal for a BBA stout.

    Cheers

    Good morning!
After a couple days in the 50s, with rain obliterating all our snow, we're back to winter again.
My wife and I are going to a matinee of La La Land, then we (or maybe just I) will be watching playoff football.
    Go Pats!

Getting ready to do some snowboarding this morning. First time in about 12 years. This could be interesting. Hopefully beer will lessen the pain.

Good morning BAs! Well, last night and this morning's rain seems to be passing south of us so it looks like I should rake the last of last year's apple leaves from my yard. Today's New Breakfast Beer turns out to be one I've already had so I just re-reviewed it instead.

Really, really, bitter for an alt beer. Hopefully next year I don't screw up and buy another simply because I don't realize that I've already had it.

Good morning, BAs! I brought back six of these beauties from my last trip to FL. "Pricey" is an understatement, so I've been saving them for a special occasion.

Today's special occasion? Having a day off and not going into work.

    Prairie Bomb!

And a touch of pooch indulgence this morning. I rescued Jack after he was abandoned by his original owners, left tied to a tree on a three foot leash and left to die. The landlord couldn't keep him, and so we took him in. This was over 10 years ago now, and he was anywhere from 1 to 4 years old at the time (full grown).

He's still very much my puppy; you would never guess he's at or near the typical lifespan for his breed. I think I'm going to start calling him Immortal Jack from now on; I like the ring of it.

No, his ears aren't clipped; he has them down while begging for pets. :stuck_out_tongue:

    Cheers, BAs!

A cloudy, cold and damp morning along the southern shore calls for some comfort food. Going all in with Michigan today including a comparison of maple syrup from BLiS and one that I purchased at Greenbush yesterday.

The Greenbush syrup is sweeter and has less bourbon flavor than BLiS which is still my favorite. In full disclosure the Greenbush was $18 which is around $10 cheaper than BLiS. It's still a tasty and cheaper alternative that I'd purchase again.

I don't cook breakfast as much as I used to and this recipe for chocolate chip waffles was quite the treat. I'm going to need a calorie burning long walk later. Have a great Saturday!

Had to brave a cold drizzle to get this shot for you guys because...

Well let's face it, I have a problem. But that is accompanied by another, completely different kind of problem - power's out. I like the natural light anyhow :stuck_out_tongue:.

Last of the six pack, and I need to officially review Beer for Breakfast, so off to that after...

This was an accidental retry, but if you or anyone else wants to do an intentional retry, I will be doing another Throwback Thursday theme day the Thursday before the Super Bowl (2+ weeks to plan). Join us here on this thread with a beer you haven't tried in quite a while. Add or adjust your review and by all means tell us about why you've neglected it and whether or not you'll make that mistake with that beer again.

    Hope you join in. Cheers!!
