Obviously a lot of ways you can go here and there are no right or wrong answers but I think it is tough to say there is a better beer made in Minnesota than Schell Bock. It checks all the boxes for me and is a style (regular Bock) that you do not see often, or if you do see it you don't see it extremely well crafted like this beer. I think IPA's,barrel aged beers, etc are easier to hide imperfections. Brew a clean, delicious bock like this and you have my vote.

If you had to pick what you think is the best crafted beer in Minnesota what would you go with?

I don't know if I can pick just one, but overall

    Darkness as an RIS definitely.

Lift Bridge Silhouette for barrel aged.

I am a big fan of Northgate's milk stout, Maggie's leap. Good session and in style.

Forager's Hip Hops is my favorite MN made IPA.

I think BADSDB gets my vote.

Brau Brothers Red Velvet, a raspberry stout. It tastes great, but nose is even better. I know a lot of folks will say Surly Darkness, but to me that's a meh.

Back when it was at its best several years ago, I would have said Fitger's Edmund Fitzgerald. Some of the Town hall BA week offerings over the years are certainly in the running as well. BA Darkness on tap 4 or 5 years ago was pretty incredible. Abrasive (maybe not so much this year for my taste buds) gets some consideration. Schell's Hefe-weizen is one of the best examples of the style. Primo never disappoints me when AAL is the only option.

But, if I have to pick one beer that has been available on at least an annual recurring basis in recent years, it would be BA Silhouette.

Well @bigdaddypolite said it ^^^ but when i saw the title of this thread first thought and it was LB BA Silhouette also for me. For the style it rivals many of the best available in the nation BA Stouts.

Barrel Aged Darkness wins this one for a stout. BA Silhouette would be a close contender if it wasn't so thin.
    Disgruntled Reaper for an IPA.

Speaking of BA Silhoutte, did anyone see the emails from Lift Bridge stating that it is the #1 rated stout in the nation?

I love me some BA Silhoutte, it is in the running for my favorite beer in Minnesota. However, I am a little curious where they are getting it is the #1 rated stout in the nation.

A lot of good choices out there.

I might have to drink about it and report back.

I think BADSDB is a pretty mediocre BA imperial stout if you ignore the coffee and vanilla. My vote is for BA Darkness. BA Silhouette is a close second, but we will have to wait and see how this year's batches turn out.

Birch's Pilsner would be my choice but unfortunately it is no longer being brewed. Such a beautiful beer. Schell's Pils has never done much for me, but I never had it fresh on tap. Schell's Hefe has gained my favor over the years and Schell's Bock is a stalwart. But I think Minneapolis Town Hall (MTH) takes it with 1800 Old English IPA. MTH also takes it with Twisted Trace for best barrel-aged beer with Buffalo Bock taking 2nd. I might just prefer Buffalo Trace Whisky, I don't know.

For me it's Rosie's Old Ale. BADSDB and BA Silhouette are definitely up there, but Rosie's with a few years on it is something special. It reminds me of a nice port. It's expensive, but so rich and memorable.

Not had near all of them but Citra Wet may have been the best MN made beer I ever experienced.

Darkness, Todd & Abrasive are tough to beat for reasonably available beers

When I see them fresh and on tap I never pass on Day Tripper, Cold Press Black, 300, Summit Oatmeal Stout, Cacao Bender......

Think War & Peace, Worthy Adversary, Size 7 and Hop Dish are underrated.....

its hard to say. you have brews like Darkness that are always killer, but every year they are slightly different. regular last year was alright. BA was stellar. this years regular was far greater than last years. so as for consistency, you might say its not a contender.

BA Silhouette is another home run, but I would take BADSDB over it.

as for just a normal everyday shelf beer, canning issues aside, i might say Todd.

I agree on Schell Pils..I may need to revisit but it doesn't compare to their bock per style in my opinion.

All the Town Hall barrel aged stuff is incredible. 1800 is one of the best IPA's in MN which is saying something.

    MN brewed beers?

    IPA: Stoopid Good (Disgruntled)
    DIPA: Todd (Surly)
    Scotch: Wee Heavy (Steel Toe)
    Stout: Darkness
    BA Stout: BA Silhouette

    Don't care about other styles...

For me it's a close call between barrel aged silhouette and some of the barrel aged stouts that forager is doing (Magnus, baby barrel Sherpa #1)
