In my experience, both Assassin and MD are dramatically different on tap vs from the bottle.I didn't understand the MD love until I had a pour from a bottle at the chainsmoker release. It was outstanding. '16 MD didn't really do it for me however.

My pours were from Good Fellas in Waukon and Safe House Saloon. Both were the same. Both were delicious. Neither had any hints of dark fruit. Big slightly bitter baker's chocolate, nice bourbon presence, and an unmatched mouthfeel.

The bitterness was the only "flaw" in this near perfect beer IMO.

Man, you know you had a great night drinking some amazing brews, when Darkness is the easy drinking pallet cleanser!

I got a pour at the TG taproom and did not notice any fruit. Just roasty and chocolate malts combined with a lot of booze/bourbon/oak

On a KBBS note, does anyone know what they number them up to? I expected 1-1000, but another guy in my group got one numbered one thousand fifty something.

I am sure TG held on to a good number of these as Clark is known to bring beers of yore to the tap room to share from time to time. I am also sure workers and some friends and family got some as well.

Does not surprise me at all to hear about one being numbed one thousand fify something.

They hold some bottles back, just release 1000 for this event.

An employee told me that they labelled them 1-1100. But I also had a pour from a bottle that didn't have a label. It was from an employee. I think it was a low fill.

My draft Assassin at the Safe House definitely had tang. It was intense at first sip, but barely noticeable by the end.

This is exactly what I got. Heavy on the sweet chocolate syrup flavors with a little bitter chocolate and a more bourbon liquor flavor than barrel flavors. My thoughts were to age it for about 6 months and see if some of the sweetness subsides.

MD, however, was incredible. Such a rich, roasty coffee flavor with a nice lightly sweet maple flavor.

(Both those pours were at Rubaiyat FWIW.)

Anyone else get a prominent umami flavor from assassin? It was by far the most intense stout I've ever had the pleasure of drinking. I'd equate it to the first time trying a truffle. Super intense and unexpected, in the best way possible.

Sad to see so many people trying to flip whole set for profit when so many would have loved to got it and drank it.

Yeah, I would have liked to have seem them write down the KBBS bottle number next to each person's name and if they saw it getting sold, ban that person from future releases.

Can't tell me you love craft beer, then go + sell one of the most sought after brews on earth, which also happens to be one of the most delicious drinks ever made, for a profit the first chance you get. It really is sad. To each their own, but still, it sucks.

I think the sellers will always find a way, anyways. There's only so much TG, or any brewery for that matter, can do. Assigning numbers to names would be a bit more time consuming, but isn't a bad idea, either. I couldn't wait to get home + crack KBBS open. Just too good to give up.

Wait, you mean I did it wrong? You are not supposed to drink beer?

Dangit, the wife and I opened KBBS on Sunday and drink it.

Sadly Iowa, Wisconsin Minnesota all have people selling. Then I see people in New Jersey, Michigan, Colorado and Illinois selling them.

I sure am keeping and drinking/sharing mine. Plus I actually want to trade for an extra Assassin, so I have one to drink solo )
