    Fieldwork did this exact thing.

During business hours...come and get them. No line. Locals rewarded.

    This..
2 hours is way too much time to allow the beer bros to start lining up. I work only 15 minutes away yet have missed the last 4 or 5 releases because by the time I leave work AT 4, the line is already at a level that no reasonable person would tolerate.
First world problems I know, and it's just beer, but the insane lines and the subsequent "ISO/FT" you see flooding IG have gotten to the point where I'm just a little heated
    Beer bros GFY!!!

I'm a Monkish fan, they make some great stuff. I have never been to a can release, I have a career and live in north county San Diego so I will never get to go to a can release. Waiting two hours in line for beer is like waiting two hours in line for a ride at Disneyland, not worth it to me, but others have no problem with it, and I respect that, they do what they do because they enjoy it.

It would be very cool and appreciated if Monkish did a once a month online can release in the 250 case range, and gave a window of 3 days for pick up, Friday to Sunday. This would also boost sales at the brewery as people would be trickling in not just for growler fills but for the can pick ups.

I would like to see this thread be about positive topics, bummer to see all the hating and judging.

Curious what is meant by flips the cans in line? Like she sells them to people in the back of the line that miss out?

My one and only lineup I saw a dude sell his wristband for $100, that was my noping the fuck out of this mess point.

As someone watching from the sidelines, I think this thread has been pretty more interesting and informative rather than inflammatory (alliteration absolutely intended).

While there has been some unnecessary petulance, there has also been some excellent information and, as a bystander, education.

It's true, standing in line for two hours isn't for everyone. People value opportunity costs differently. We all value the beer community, and positivity is important. That being said, not every discussion has to be universally positive and rosy. Disagreement is what develops discussion and I, for one, have enjoyed this one over some of the other flame fests that have developed in other threads.

    Just my two cents!

First time getting cans for me at Monkish... I usually only have time for fills due to work, but I was in the area so I decided to stop by

Showed up at 3:45... got full allotment and was back in my car by 4:55... only saw 2 strollers... no one drinking or puffing

Was expecting pure anarchy due to what everyone here says... I think you guys blow it way out of proportion

You didn't see the baby smoking weed? The parent stacking their kids up in a trench coat to mule for them? You didn't have to pass through the gauntlet of can scalpers warming themselves by garbage can fires? You didn't cut your feet on the glass from all the carelessly discarded Black Tuesday bottles?

Or do these issues just not matter to you? They matter to a lot of us.

I think a lot of that went away once they started doing weekday releases. Mostly BT verts and drinking in line, babies still there chilling, I had never been to Monkish release till they made this change, but I used to get a kick out people proudly posting pics of themselves, on IG at 1am, doing bottle shares. Its like watching Maury, and feeling better about your life.

I wonder how that's possible without actually being caught red handed? I mean if she's doing it on Facebook or Instagram, I could see how he could find out who they are. Not sure how other sites work. Yet to venture into that side of Craft Beer culture. I mean I know about secondary value and stuff, I just don't know how people are able to pull it since it's not legal.

Back to my point, if he does have a way to figure it out, I hope that reduces the amount of dummies standing outside waiting for an Instagram post.

    This!

On a positive note...of those that made it yesterday how was the beer itself? Good as usual? Better?

I suppose it could work but no doubt someone would bitch about a 1-day window on a pre-sale. Also, having a 1-day window with no refunds would probably rub people the wrong way - shit happens in life. On the other hand, offering refunds to people who didn't pick up on a weekly basis (sometimes more than that) seems like a burdensome nightmare.

IMO, one of the main values of an online pre-sale is the expanded window, whether it is the 10-days that MT does for its IPAs or 30-90 days that many do for various bottles. But, I also think that a brewery the size of Monkish would have trouble keeping its cans cold for 10 days. So, either you have a couple options from what I can tell:

The new canning line and larger fermentation tank was not free. They also seem to have more employees than they used to.

Personally, I do not think it is an overblown issue when everyone compares Monkish to MT and their ability to sit on a ton of cans for 10 days.

Does it prevent them from storing a 1/2 production run (i.e. 60-80 cases) for a few days? No.

There is probably lot to be said about this... but I also do not think Monkish is making their decisions solely on one factor. I'm guessing there are multiple reasons they have chosen to go with day-of sales instead of pre-sales.
