Ever since having Toppling Goliath's Term Oil - Cherry, I've been on the hunt for other great cherry adjunct stouts. The problem is, I don't see many other than Central Waters Cherry Stout which I've heard very mixed reviews on. Is this just sort of a newer adjunct people are messing with? I worry I'll be chasing that Moby Dick (TO - Cherry) for years to come and my search will be fruitless (heh).

I took note that the BA rating for Bell's Cherry Stout is an 81. That sounds about the right score. It kinda sucks that an 81 rated beers costs over 15 bucks a 6-pack though.

    Non-cheers to that.

As cherry stouts go, Bell's is pretty legit. I'd recommend it.

Bell's Cherry Stout is very good. It is a fall/winter seasonable release, but has a 12 month shelf life. I usually stock up a bit when I can get it and drink it throughout the year.

I had two bottles of hard traded for Cherry Ryes. I drank one, traded the other. It Was ok, but the majority of infected stouts I've had there was a distinct tart cherry hit, I couldn't shake that thought drinking the BC Cherry. It was a very good beer btw, but one was enough.

I've only had the Central Waters. Being a CW fanboy, this one eluded me until I found it on tap and I had to try it. It was lacking in barrel taste, like none, and the cherry flavor was tart. If they cranked up the barrel time, and made it less tart, they'd have a winner. I expect tartness could be the downfall of many cherry stouts. Tart stouts just don't do it for me.

Need to be very careful with anything cherry. I find cherry with alcohol and bad balance finishes like cough syrup.

Sounds good, but not a stout, though stouts are stout porters.

Yeah, so far in my research, the only thing that seems like it would even compare to Term-Oil Cherry at this point would have been GI Cherry Rye. Must be that a lot of brewers are scared of what a lot of you have said: making it taste like something better than cough syrup. I'll definitely try the CW Cherry and the BBH with Cherries though!

bells cherry is polarizing. it certainly has a lot of Michigan tart cherry to it. if you are unfamiliar or not used to tart cherries you may be in for a surprise (good or bad I suppose). growing up in the mitten, I have had plenty of tart cherries and love this stout.
