I think it's pretty funny they have to specify that these imperial stouts are "Non-Barrel-Aged", as if BA imperial stouts are the norm and non-BA stouts are out of the ordinary...:grinning:

For some reason that very inexplicable misconception seems to be on the increase lately.

I assume it's just because most of your typical "top stout" lists will inevitably be BA-heavy if you don't add the "non-ba" term beforehand, especially since most of the highest profile stout releases are barrel-aged.

No, both of those beers were listed "in the field, not ranked". So they were tasted, just didn't make the top 40

I really liked Southern Tier Oat, but wasn't it discontinued in like 2013? Kind of weird to include a 3+ year old beer in the tasting.

Interesting list. My issue is format (and lack of distro). I wish more of these were not 22-25oz bottles. That's why I tend to lean towards Founders, Ten Fidy, Even More Jesus etc. I'll have to try Soft DK though...

And Old Rasputin not making the top 40 is just nuts.

Agree, traditional with no additives and I think it is a better way of measuring a beer. Not that I don't enjoy an imperial stout with coffee or cocoa nibs but I think brewing a traditional style takes more skill.

Surprised to not see storm king and yeti in the top 40 love those beers. Oh well we all have different tastes.

Really surprised DFH Worldwide Stout isn't even on the list.

One might be that drinker expect Stouts to taste like Stouts not like Port Wine!
