    Not sure what you guys were expecting from a beer brewed with pop rocks candy. I was surprised it tasted as good as it did. Cool to see a brewery having fun.

    To the contrary, I enjoy when breweries experiment. However, I also enjoy when beer tastes good.

    Great Notion could do what a lot of places do and simply have a website and post the taplist on there/ update it accordingly. So then people just have to go to www.greatnotionbrewing.com or whatever and click "taproom" or "whats on tap." Bingo.

    Just a note that they're closed today and tomorrow (30th and 31st), don't make the same mistake I did and drive out there!

    Totally agree. Many breweries in Southern California are trying to emulate the juicy non-filtered style beers that are becoming increasingly popular. Lets just say some breweries out here are more successful at it than others. I wouldn't say San Diego style as you put it are dead but they tend to be overly bitter and many people are burned out on them at the moment.

    Looking forward to more beer and cans from them. Good news that the production brewery will also have a taproom/restaurant. Parking looks like it could be an issue at busy times though.

    Hey guys, just wanted to throw my two cents in. I traveled to Portland this past weekend (Jan 14-17) and was lucky enough to be able to make a stop in at GN. I was thoroughly impressed with everything I had during my visit and wanted to commend the people at Great Notion for bringing fantastic beer to the masses in PDX. Highlights for me were Over Ripe (straight-up melon deliciousness), Juice Box, and Double Stack, which I would put on the same level as Mornin' Delight from Toppling Goliath (albeit a bit more syrup heavy). We had just had breakfast at Pine State Biscuits, so downing a few tasters and full pours was in order. I think you all have a gem out there and you should try everything they put out. Keep up the good work!

    Lord knows how hard it was to find good beer in Portland before Great Notion.

    </sarcasm>

    Edit: Lest this be seen as "hating" on Great Notion, I think some of their beers are very good, and I'm a fan of their food as well.

    I hope y'all realize the amount of self-restraint it took for me to not make a similar post. Yes, yes, many hosannas to Grape Lotion for finally showing all us hacks what real beer tastes like. I may just leave a chair there, permanently.

    I don't understand the negativity this brewery gets from a lot of people in the PNW. Perhaps someone will explain why.

    Because people from outside the region lose their shit over GN while ignoring all the other amazing breweries that were there long before.

    I like-a tha juice, but cmon people.

    Why do you care if that's the case? How do you know they ignore all the other amazing breweries that were there long before?

    I've been to Portland many times and enjoy GN just as much as other breweries I've visited, but they're more in my wheelhouse as far as what I'm currently looking for beer wise these days. It's not so much of a knock on the other amazing breweries as much as it is props to GN.

    I just don't find the situation that serious.

    They must be doing something right if that many people are visiting Portland and are so impressed by them.

    It really comes down to preference, no one makes you or me drink hazy hoppy beers, but I believe they have cemented their spot in the beer spectrum. I enjoy them just as much as I enjoy other styles of hoppy brews, but to knock them because they're making hazy brews I find ridiculous. They've also made some pretty damn good non hazy hoppy brews as well as other styles. I don't believe them to be a brewery with one talent when it comes to brewing beer.
