Good morning friars of fest bier and pipers of pale ales!

Glad to be back in the US today. Spent a lovely week with my wife in Cancun but was a virtual beer wasteland. Corona, Leon, Negra Modelo, and Bud Light were my options. Drifted toward Cabarnet and the obligatory fruity drinks. It was a wonderful vacation but also a vacation from craft beer. Hoping to change that today.

Thanks to malty for filling in last week. Wasn't 100% sure about Mexican internet...at least from my laptop.

Enough of my ramblings...today is a new day with new beer on tap! Please try a new beer and post your thoughts, musings, reflections, and a good description or link to what you sampled. Share a virtual pint with us! If you have pics, great. If not, drive on and explore new beer horizons today.

Thanks for keeping NBS fresh, informative, and fun. Good day and good drinkin'.

    Peace, love, and malty-ness,

    Matt

    ***New Lambic-Fruit Sunday!!!

A vacation from craft beer? I'm sure they'll taste doubly good now, eh?

My new beer today came from the generous hands of apocalypsezombie, aka Tom. A wonderful brew from Cascade:

I'm in a sour mood today so I'll have another review later today.

    Cheers!

Hopefully I can present a couple of new beers for NBS 397. My first beer is one I was surprised I had not reviewed yet. I certainly have drank it a number of times. A classic English beer that I am sure has inspired many a brewer through the ages. Fullers London Porter:

I had an 8 month past its best by date when I reviewed it and it still knocked my socks off. What would a fresh bottle do to me???

    New Dubbel Sunday

    Greetings NBSer's,

Another damn glorious day. 80 degrees in MN in Oct. is a little off-putting. Too hot actually, too dry, but I know it could be much worse, so I'm done with the whining. Let's get on to better things.

Local again with a one-off from Summit brewing. Titled Abbey Ale and looking and drinking closest to a dubbel. Solid effort and a good drinking dubbel, but not anything to write home about other than to say give to a try.

Best wishes to all this week.

    New American Wild Ale Sunday

I had a small taste of a beer Friday from Aviator Brewing in Fuquay-Varina, NC, but Im just now tasting it for the first time. It was the last of set of sours and stouts that wrecked my palate. Its their Altbier that they let sit in a barrel with Brett for almost 3 years. Its like a vinegar bomb, with a harsh burn from the lactic acid. Also a bit of roasted malt in there, but its just a sour vinegar bomb.

I think they named it Caveman Alt.

Only real new beers I had today were homebrews. We brewed an Irish Blonde 3 weeks ago. Tasted it while kegging today. Quite nice for being green. The dry hopped version is showing great potential. That one will be kegged this week. And I also tasted my Bourbon Maple Oak Aged Imperial Chocolate Coffee Oatmeal Stout. So delicious! I did revistit a bottled in May of '09 Ommegeddon. So clean and fruity compaired to the last bottle I had around Christmas of '09, which was very down on the farm "horse blanket." Enjoy this beautiful Sunday! Cheers!

Greetings fellow NBSers! Another quite pleasant day here in the Fourth Corner, sunny and warm. We've not had appreciable rain for almost 3 months, and while that's great news for me, it's meant a lot of problems with wildfires for our folks East of the Mountains. All our best thought go over there to them and huge thanks to the hundreds of firefighters busting their asses to to contain things.

Today was the Bellingham Bay Marathon and I spent some time in the beer garden at the finish line listening to one of my favorite local bands and having a couple pints. Now I'm up at one of my locals and my first new brew of the end of September: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14503/62355 . I'll probably have one more to report on in a bit. Cheers all!

My second new beer is one I had a taste of a couple moths ago, but this was my first full serving. Now that I've had it, I don't have to have it again, but I suspect lots of folks will like this brew a lot: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/700/83742 .

Good evening NBS from Southern, CT.

Off and on rain today but largely a nice day. We took the baby out for breakfast today followed up by some chores around the house and then fantasy football watch while waiting for the Eagles later. A great relaxing early fall Sunday.

I'm starting off with this dark Saison for NBS.

Sorry, I lied. What can I say, I'm surrounded by bad influences. Was talked into having one more and got a "Harvest" ale that's a Saison. Very nice brew. Now I'm out, for reals this time: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/20680/62858

Condolences on the Mexican beer thing Matt. I hear you. How awesome would those places be with a decent beer selection? I guess you are supposed to drink Margaritas, but hard liquor and I parted company many years ago. I just get too crazy with that stuff. Every time I see one of those "Find Your Beach" commercials I think "yeah, but with a nice IPA or a hefe, not Corona." I usually go XX in Mexican places.

    But I digress:

Red Hoptober from New Belgium. A nice fall seasonal. Heavy on the charcoal and coffee flavors, but very nice.

Gorgeous fall day here in dry land wheat country. Blue skies and temps in the mid 70's.

We are having what I call "Second Spring." In this part of the country the summer heat turns the fields and grasses a gold, amber and brown color. Then in late summer they seed winter wheat. The winter wheat sprouts and turns the fields an emerald green in the fall. "Second Spring." It grows to be 4 or 5 inches high, then turns a deep blue green color as the darkness and cold temperatures of winter set in. Hopefully the wheat is covered with a layer of snow if/when sub-zero temperatures arrive. Then in the spring the wheat starts growing again, getting 3 feet high or so, before turning to "amber waves of grain" for harvest in late July and August. Winter wheat is an amazing plant. So there is your agricultural lesson for today.

    Happy Trails!
