Current batch of Double Crush is much different than the first one I had; maybe a recipe or hop tweak? I got much more papaya/mango rind than tropic juice, borderline vegetal, as you say, near the finish. I prefer the previous recipe, but will continue seeking it out.

Structures latest can release was on Friday and they are sending some to Chuck's today I believe. It is pretty good IMO... not a huge thick juice bomb but pretty good. They like experimenting with unique hops and methods and this one was fermented with honey. I was nervous when i heard that, but you wouldn't even know it unless they told you.

I'll post their pic since mine is a bad dark one... lol

Haha, yeah... @beertunes knows my like of Structures and my lame attempt at hoping Structures can releases stay the way they are. No lines. lol

Thanks for the post and I agree, no one in Seattle really has seemed to hit the nail on the head when it comes to NE hazy beers. I have not been to Great Notion but hope to soon enough. With that said, I'm super happy to have Structures in my backyard because all they do is hazy stuff, one of the brewers lived out on the East Coast learning the methods, and they do it consistently well. Some of their IPAs are done with unique hops so they might be "off" just a bit, but I appreciate someone coming up with new ideas and trying vs sticking with the same old stuff that every brewery does.

Also, I forgot to ask them if I can share this news so I won't say much, but they will be doing a major Seattle anniversary beer this coming year, so they will definitely get some notoriety if they don't already have it by then.

And to the comments about local hazy beers still being too bitter to be true examples of the style... Structures did this in September... 12 IBUs. Had tons of hop smell/flavor, without bitterness.

"Fuzz Words goes on today. Hopped singularly and intensely with South African Exp. hop N1/69. Pungent, guava, eucalyptus, and mild candy. 12 IBUS and 5% abv"

Yeah, I had a couple pints Friday. Enjoyable enough, but, not a $4/can to me.

On a semi-related note, since they were offering this in crowlers, is Reuben's now providing crowler service (for almost anything on tap) on demand? If so, @66jzmstr would need to add them to the rejiggered NW crowler list he's been pouring his heart and soul into the past few weeks.

    Noted! :grinning:

I actually gave myself an Oregon geography lesson a couple weeks ago and got the Oregon crowler section all mapped out, but life has gotten in the way of beer-related things as of late, which is in dire need of fixing sooner than later! Still on my radar, though. ;o)

Hi all - yes, we got a new crowler system and started using it last week when the cans came in.

Glad you're liking the Crush series! Using the NE strains is a learning process for us, they give off wonderful esters and interact in different ways to dry hops than the usual more neutral yeast strains (at least in my mind). We're continue to experiment with the style, which is why we mix up each batch right now until we land on the exact version we want to run with in the long run. This most recent batch of double crush is really great with coconut and pineapple infusion! Thor drove that idea and did a great job. When we brew the next batch next month, we'll look at the hopping again as we continue to dial it in. We'll probably play with the process a little more too - as we try and get as much out of the 4lbs / BBL dry hop.

Next Saturday (Feb 4) we will release a Triple Crush - 10% ABV Crush, the same day as the Blimey release. I tried it before the dry hop today and the peach ester is really nice off. It's a fickle yeast strain, tricky to work with, but worth it with when you can get it right.

    Cheers, Adam

The 3-Way test batches you've got on tap right now are awesome. I liked that one was bitter while the other was just straight juice.

Also, is it pureeed pineapple, pineapple juice or whole fruit? Cause I'd swear I was drinking Dole straight out of the can...

I'm embarrassed to say I visited Reuben's for the first time tonight. I've enjoyed plenty of their beers but never on tap. I went outta my way tonight and so glad I did.

They had a few of their Crush variants in tap as well as 2 beta versions of their upcoming 3-way. Their brewer Dean was sitting at the bar and with me asking the bartender so many questions she finally got him involved. I chatted him up my entire stay and appreciated hearing how theh do things, the details of their Crush series etc. I really enjoyed the Double Crush and hope I can taste their future versions.

I just found out Silver City released a hazy IPA called Tropic Haze. It looks like it might be draft only at the moment judging from Untappd photos, but here is an image from Facebook that makes me think cans are coming really soon. I haven't had it yet though...:slight_frown:

Had to go to bookFace and axe some questions: This will become a year-rounder for Silver City in March, and it won't replace anythang. I don't put too much credence into Untarpd reviews, but if the scores there are anything to be believed, I'm pretty stoked on this. AOA in my QFC, WTF? THE END IS NIGH.

Perry Street Brewing in Spokane posted a picture on fb a week or so ago saying they're going to be doing a years-worth of one-off New England/Vermont-style IPA's, beginning late February.

I'm not sure how you feel about the final product, but count me a fan. For an inaugural, experimental effort, Triple Crush is tastier than it has any right to be, and I look forward to further iterations of this one and the rest of the series as you continue to fine-tune them.

Moreover, a tip of the cap needs to be offered to the good people staffing your tap room. When I swung by mid-afternoon, the place was noisy and packed. Those can be thankless conditions to work in, but the service I received was fast and friendly. As always. My thanks to you and them...

Thanks @EdwardAbbey, glad you liked Triple Crush! I think it turned out spot on for what we were aiming for. We selected hop lots last year and this beer really benefits from that I think. This years batch of Blimey is tasting great too, nice juicy body with the ABV hidden and bright clementine zest notes from the Amarillo.

And thank you for the kind words on the team! We are proud and fortunate to have a great team in the taproom and brewery.

    Cheers!
