Has Badger Hill used label art like this before? In this case it's not the brewery. It's Todd. The label is by Brandon Holt, who is a local artist (tattoo and illustration) and a great guy. Brandon did the Darkness label last year with the three headed dog thing too. Todd seems to really like his work.

I showed up just after 12:30 today, waited in line for over an hour, and didn't get any bottles. I got to try it on tap and it was very good, but it is not worth going out of your way for, especially at $18/bottle.

But, but, but...even though most of us don't know Todd on a personal level we love the image of him.

On a non-smartass level, is this beer going to be on tap around town, or do I have to go to the Bad Weather to try it?

You can try Bad Weather, the key is you'll have to be really insistent about it because they'll act they don't know what you're talking about.

According to the Badger Hill event page, select bars and stores are supposed to get this after the release today so I'd imagine you'll be able to find it somewhere else.

That's good to hear. I may stop in and try it next week at the taproom, but it's good to know that I didn't miss out by not standing in line for it.

I read that no base malts were used in this brew (I'm assuming that honey must have provided the majority of the fermentables), so that made me curious to try it.

Another overpriced offering from Todd. I thought about seeking this out until I heard the $18 price tag, GMAFB. His name alone isn't worth paying high prices for mediocre beer.

I stopped in to Badger Hill today and had a few Hexits. It's a great beer- I definitely was not disappointed. I also liked the double stout they had on tap. Is Hexit worth $18 for a 750? I think so- I'm sure they could have sold it for a few dollars more. I certainly didn't frown at $6 for a tulip.
Has anyone heard if this is just a one time thing, or will they continue to brew it?

I was planning on going, when I left work in St. Cloud, at 1:15 I checked their FB - they said there were only 100 bottles out of the 700 left. I knew I would likely be SOL. I stopped in Monticello, and it was confirmed, so I went over to cheesehead land to get beers I can't get here in MN, and visited some friends in St. Paul.

Oh, well. I know I could have gotten some on tap, but just didn't have the time.

I had this on tap this today. It's a very good IPA, but I can't say that it blew my mind. I would have never guessed that honey was a large part of the recipe.

Personally, I found the barrel-aged strong ale and the double porter that Badger Hill had on tap to be far more hype-worthy. They were excellent.

Follow Badger Hill on Facebook. The bottles are being delivered today, and they'll be posting updates on their page as the deliveries are confirmed.

Will be everywhere soon....still a hard pass for me. Never liked Meads or Braggots.

The honey character is surprisingly mute. It's basically an $18/bottle IPA.

Hexit is described as a baggot but it seems everyone who has tried it says Hexit tastes like a good/decent IPA. I thought baggots were supposed to have minimal bitterness/hops. I really liked Surly Three but Hexit sounds like a completely different beer.

Brandon Holt did not create the 2016 Surly Darkness label, the three headed dog thing as you said. The correct artist's name is Adam Martin. Perhaps Mr Holt made a different Darkness label?
