Just got in from Seattle, loooooong night. It's almost after 1:30am here, so surely that's good enough to start a new WBAYDN thread! Just cracked this open, straight out the luggage. Nice and cold from the flight over. Excellent IPA from Structures. Even cooler, is that the tree on the label, is from near my hometown. It's called the Angel Oak Tree, it's on Johns Island, SC.

While in Seattle, I got to enjoy some great beer! Fremont B-Bomb on tap!

Saw two Pugs chillin' outside the coffee shop I was at, too funny

Took my athletes over to a park for a little picnic, great scenery, but a bit cold

Also, before we headed out to Seattle on Thursday, I enjoyed another great Seattle IPA

    Good morning.

I had a Founders theme yesterday evening and will continue today. Founders Backwoods Bastard. Heavy stuff, best before 04/06/17 so I guess it has some age on it, making it better?

Good morning BA, have a great Sunday! NOt much to do today other than laundry and realxing until the start of yet another busy work week.

This is a great American porter. Flavors of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toasted dark bread, biscuit, nuttiness, and light smoke/char malt; with some herbal, peppery, light citrus hops. Light-moderate roast/char and herbal/spicy hop bitterness on the finish. Medium bodied; balanced bready creaminess, chalky roast, and hop stickiness in the mouthfeel. Increasing roast/char dryness. Great complexity all around. Spot on for the style. I have never used carabrown malt before, but this makes me want to give it a shot in my next porter. Tastes way more biscuity and nutty than dark munich, which is what I usually have in my porters. Will definitely grab this one again. Glad we get them in MI now.

Amazing DIPA! Glad I keep finding more singles of this. Flavors of tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, papaya, lemon zest, orange peel, light pepper, and pine hops; moderate honey, light caramel, and lightly toasted biscuit malt sweetness; and herbal, floral, grassy hop earthiness. Moderate pine, citrus rind, and peppery/spicy bitterness on the finish. Medium-plus bodied; balanced sticky/resinous hops and grainy/bready malt creaminess in the mouthfeel. Increasingly drying resin finish; minimal hop astringency. Just flat out incredible. Insanely bright and dank on hops; nice malt backbone without being sweet. Nice mix of earthy, citrusy, and tropical hop varieties.

Haven't had this one in years, grabbed one last week with the fresh can release. This is as awesome as I remember. Flavors of huge grapefruit, tangerine, pineapple, peach, apricot, mango, lemon zest, orange peel, citrus rind, and pine; with moderate honey, caramel, biscuity malt sweetness; and floral/grassy hop earthiness. Large sized pine/rind bitter finish. Full bodied creamy, sticky, resinous, and lightly slick mouthfeel. Increasing resin/rind dryness, minimal hop astringency. Warming but not boozy finish. This is definitely a monster of a DIPA, but it's well balanced between the hops and fruit additions. Aggressive yet smooth. We just recently changed distributors in MI for Evil Twin and the others in the 12% LLC portfolio, so the price should be coming down for all of their stuff now.

Recently found out there are 3 different Bomb! coffee variations now. Nordaggios was the original; but now they have Spaceship Earth, and this "unnamed" one. I grabbed both to try out. This is world class as usual. Flavors of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, caramel, vanilla, toffee, molasses, chili pepper, and toasted dark bread; with lighter notes of raisin, currants, smoke, char, and nuttiness. Bittersweet balanced roasted finish, mild pepper spice. Full bodied creamy/silky mouthfeel; lightly slick with a bit of sticky/chalky roast and spice notes. Slightly drying. Very well hidden ABV with only a small lingering warmth, no booze. Great pepper balance with minimal heat as usual. The different coffee variation is subtle but noticeable. A little more fruity and nutty IMO. Looking forward to trying the Spaceship Earth one next.

A little more nuisance snow fell overnight. I think the leaf blower and a morning beer can do the job! This was bottled on 1/25 last year and still tasting pretty damn good. Have yourself a relaxing Sunday.....

Now that Founders has made its way to France, you'll find yourself drinking many of their brews . Really solid brewery that is one of my favorites and puts out some great styles .

Malka Pale Ale by Isreal's Malka Brewery

Not sure why they call this a Pale Ale as it's clearly too dark to deserve such a name. This is a beer made in the English tradition of the style and it's therefore less hoppy than the American versions. Lots and lots of caramel on the nose and taste. Not a bad beer by any means but it's not as drinkable as the pale ales I'm used to.

    Happy Sunday BA's

Looked at the cool (and free!) sailboat Alacrity yesterday and agreed to take it off the owners hands....then, when I was telling him about my 1913 Morris canoe, he said...."oh, you like canoes too? I may have something else you would like"......holy boat shit! :grimacing: :grimacing: He proceeded to show me a 1930's vintage wooden sailing canoe, very cool 16 foot boat.....he said as long as a friend who was interested some time ago, does not want it, that is mine as well....!! Man, I must live right....very cool (free) boat finds!

Having a nice brew on a cold snowy morning....quite a contrast from last weekend in the 60's and sunny....ah well

sailing canoe similar to the one I will be getting.....except mine is not yawl rigged (2 sails) like this and not as nice looking!
