Last week for NBS I reviewed a Wild Sour Series beer from Destihl Brewery, and it was a complete miss for me. This week I'm trying the series again with their Plum Sour Stout. This is a weird beer - it's equal parts sour and stout. They compliment each other more than battle each other. I'm not sure it's my style, but it's not bad.

Poured from a 12 ounce can dated 11/09/16. It pours a deep brown with a three finger head that quickly dissipated leaving very minimal lacing. The smell is typical sour upfront but there is a definite malty, chocolate stout smell coming through also. I can get the plum character on the nose also. The taste follows the smell. It's sour plum and roasted malts combined in equal parts. The roasted flavor really comes through in the aftertaste. Overall it's a confusing beer - equal parts sour and stout. I'm not sure I'll buy it again, but it's not bad.

I thought that beer was delicious and very unique. I'm not sure I've ever tasted peanuts in beer before, and it really worked.

I can't wait for that beer to hit Arkansas. I love the option for both 750 and 12 oz.

Okay so I decided to join the everyday drinking crowd and possibly return to NBS later.
Having a little meatier brew after that bomber of Frootwood . I would have chosen a Stout, but I'm out of my daily drinkers and need a reload . The wife just bailed on me, so I might have to run up the street for a little something. I guess her leaving early combined with an amazing Villanova comeback win , could lead to a many brew day and evening

Round 2! Again, courtesy of @FBarber (which I might just have to get another fridge because of), this one comes out of New Jersey from the folks at Magnify. Another new to me brewery, and am very excited to try! I'm trying to relax over here today, but the chores keep stacking up. I need a break. Oh look...beer!

    A:
Slightly opaque, bright yellowy orange with a coarsely bubbled foamy white head that sticks well.

    A:
Pine sap, citrus, papaya, honey and even a hint of white pepper shine through.

T: I'm not a fan of the word dank, but it seems too appropriate not to use. Dank, resinous pine (and I'm talking spruce needles here!), a touch of citrus, and I'm getting that affomentioned white pepper and even a little black licorice.

F: Medium bodied, good carbonation, bitter, and dry with a sticky coating finish. A touch of alcohol comes through as it warms.

O: Overall, this is my kind of IPA! Sure I enjoy every style, and though this looks semi new school, it smells, feels, and tastes all old skool to me. A beer that punches you in olfactory, then kicks you in the teeth!

Cheers again everyone, and I will see you all soon!

    look: 4.25 | smell: 4 | taste: 4.5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.25

375 ml bottle, July 14, 2016, poured into a flute

A- A clear dirty ruby red with a small off-white head

S- Tart, sweet strawberries, some vanilla/bourbon, oak, leather/tannis.

T- Sour, tart underripe strawberries, some sweet strawberry jam, tannis, leather, oak, just enough bourbon.

    M- Smooth, medium body.

O- Very fruity and sour, strawberries really linger on the palate. Very drinkable for 9.7%. Leaving to Allagash to brew an excellent strawberry sour; not quite as good as Farm To Face or Nancy, but still worth seeking out.

Not a problem. I am making a Murgha Massalla recipe (A curried seasoned whole chicken in spices) from a really good Indian cookbook I have. I've made this once before, it's a bit of a few steps but oh man, the last time I made it, it was do delicious.

So I am making it tonight.

[IMG] So been on the slopes watching the kids most of the day, finally time for a little brew sent to me by @Rcruz9230 not my thing normal, but I will grade it with that in mind. Pours a very light yellow with a fluffy 3 plus finger head, that leaves some nice thin lace behind, bottled in December 2015. 4

Smell is must, sour grapes, rubarb, lemon, coriander, and a little grapefruit rind. 4

Taste follows must, champagne, lemon, coriander, and grapefruit. 4

Mouthfeel is on the light side, loads of bubbly carbonation, a little dry, and easy drinking, with loads of flavor for 5.5% ABV. 4

Overall this is very good for a Saison, not something that I normally enjoy, but this was good, one of if not the best I have had. 4[IMG]

Moving onto more East Coast hops after a little family gathering. This one comes by way of Fiddlehead Brewing Company. I can't wait to dig in. Cheers.

    Fiddlehead's Second Fiddle.

Pours deep orange with a thick layer of fog to it. Head foams up to two fingers in height and white in color. Head retention is good. Lacing is fair. Aroma is orange zest, mango, and pine hops. There is a rich biscuity, bready malt quality as well. Flavor profile is orange zest, mango, payapya, with some pine and resin hop stick to it. Malts really cut throw the hops, and come in the form of biscuit and bread notes. It has a large presence to it, yet is still balanced. Mouth feel is filling, with a thick DIPA texture to it. It has a little bit of graininess, and fizziness as well. Overall, a sublime DIPA that features plenty of popping hop action. The malt notes are great, and really bolster this beer into a thick, experience of a DIPA.

    Score: 4.25 | 4.25 | 4.5 | 4.5 | 4.5 | BA Score: 4.43 | rDev: -0.2%

Personal reflection: This beer really does play second fiddle to Sip of Sunshine, but don't let that fool you. This is a delicious and huge beer. Drinking this for the first time evokes memories of my first Hopslam experience. Delicious.

Not having a lot of cream ales to base things on, I think it is true to the style as it is lageresque. The straw color is misrepresented by the ill-lit photo but the carbonation is great maintaining the fine, white, but thin head. Initially there was more bite in the finish than seems that there should have been but after becoming accustomed to it, it smooth out some and has a satisfying mouthfeel. Feels like a classy picnic beer.

    Greetings friends,
Busy day here and I'll talk a little about my favorite local brew...Foothills Jade.
Anyway, @lordofthewiens inspired me with his photos of Sparky, Sophia, and Willie. I miss my Teddy, Meg, and Lily. So here's a photo of Otis, who just happens to be being good on purpose. Otis is a complete hoot (literally) and is everyone's friend. I've had Pointers, but never a Treeing Walker...Otis is perfectly goofy and scary smart! He's looking at Dartmouth and Beloit.........
This really fresh Foothills Jade is a classic bright yellow gold with a pretty white cap. The nose is a touch tropical, lemony, and the beer is nicely alive in the glass. This is a big mouthful of ale, somewhat soft and easy, smooth with orange and mango-like nose and flavor. Lovely fruit with a bite! I like this one always as it warms to really reveal the fine integration of malt and hop(s). I love Foothills Jade and recommend it highly.

New brew number 2 tonight, Rising Tide Admiral. It's a blended sour ale with a cedar aged Belgian ale and an oak and apricot aged sour ale. I've never seen anything aged in cedar so let's see how it goes.

Pours almost clear gold with a finger of white foamy head. Spectacular head retention for a sour. Minimal lacing. Great stream of bubbles constantly rising.

The aroma is very delicate, earthy oak and bready malt. Lemon and maybe a smidge of the cedar.

The standout performance of this brew is the flavor. Once you get over the first bump of weirdness and start delving into the depths of this brew it's pretty awesome. I'm getting clove, lemon, oak, white bread, apricot, a little earthy bitterness which I'm assuming is the cedar though it has no pine like flavor, lighter notes of oranges pineapples. Everything is played over a nice light tartness and bready grist. It's a little sweet but not over the top.

Light bodied, smooth and a nice light carbonation.

The cedar in the description threw me for a loop as for what to expect, so this was totally unexpected. It's fruity and sweet tart on the whole but wonderfully blended and put together. Rising Tide is always surprising me with excellent beer.

    Cheers!
    Marc
