    Good Afternoon BAs,

I am going to a bachelor party in about a month and the bachelor himself wants to do a beer tasting. I am thinking of bringing a case of singles (he is bringing some and I believe the other guys are too). He likes IPAs (all kinds) and anything with coffee. Any idea of what I should get? Like a bunch of single IPAs or should I mix in sessions and doubles for instance?

    Thanks!

I don't see why you wouldn't do a mix. And depending on how many people are gonna be there, a single of each won't be enough. Grab some bombers and some six packs of some nice stuff and your part is done.
Cheers! And congratulations to your buddy, marriage is great!

Very good point. I'm not sure how many people are doing it. I was thinking about 2-3 oz per person.

Beer tastings are great fun but I enjoy ranking them also...makes for great conversation.

If you are taking a case of singles, and you seem to be saying that at least another case of singles can be expected, I thing you guys should be communicating with each other to minimize the duplicates, regardless of style. Or at least talk with each other in order to match the preferred beers that will be best appreciated.

Not looking for a seasonal case. I guess my plan will be to just get whatever looks appealing at the time I go.

Nugget Nectar would be a good one , maybe FBS or some other coffee stouts . Beer tastings are fun but with a bigger group it's easier to do a bottle share . It's more casual and folks can taste at their own pace . We have everyone bring 1 or 2 large bottles and people open bottles , take a small pour then pass it on to whoever wants to try it . Might work for your party . Have fun .

Is the plan to have the strippers serve the beers blind?

I would recommend utilizing this site's "Beers of Fame" list, which is different than the top 250 in that it's not only the beers that have withstood the test of time, but are generally much more readily available, even in singles.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/lists/fame/

Tons of options there like FBS, Nugget Nectar, Rochefort, Duvel, La Fin Du Monde, etc.

Hmm, 22 oz. Bottles sound appealing.

If it were me, I would plan to serve 3 or 4 oz of each beer MINIMUM to everyone. Plus have a little extra for people who liked that particular beer.

Any beer that doesn't get demolished goes to the bachelor, as he will need it to deal with his terrible decision.

If you have a lot people involved the communication/coordination can be nightmare. Alterntively, everyone involved could just pool their money and let 1 trusted individual select the beer. I've been involved with a beer exchange at work where we had some simple rules to try avoid duplicates and it's comical how poorly people follow basic directions, or we got cheap-skates who don't contribute what others did. We learned years ago that we were all better off pitching in for one person to buy for the group, and most people are quite happy to let someone else do the legwork. The other advantage to pooling money is when you walk into a beer store and say "Hi. I'm buying <insert large amount> of beer" you definitely get the owner's attention and they give us extra discounts, promo glasses, etc., so everyone's money goes a little further.

Excellent point(s)! If the best man likes craft beer, and can multitask.. let him have the honors. I he doesn't meet both criteria.. maybe find a craft beer volunteer (hint hint).

Definitely mix up styles. The palate is gonna get pretty burnt out pretty quickly if its an all-IPA tasting.

Also, I personally think you can't really appreciate a beer without at least a 4oz pour (honestly even that I think is suspect, 6oz IMO is the ideal tasting). I would rather have less beers but actually get to appreciate the ones I have. Just one mans opinion though.

I'm kind of torn. I still have a few weeks, but I'll probably just get a bunch of 4 packs of stuff over 8% (double IPAs and imperial coffee Stouts). Should make for a good time.
