I just turned 21 and i want to drink a really good beer. I tried bud light and personally it tasted like rice water. I want a beer that is sweet but not over the top sweet. Any suggestions.

Maybe give people a little more about what other things you like? Sweet, rich, sour, roasted (like coffee), etc. and we might be able to point you towards some things you might like.

Where in NC are you, that could narrow some specifics to even local beer you could easily find and try.

A good start would be some Belgian blond ales.

Go find a local brewery or two in your area and order some flight samplers, figure out the styles you like and refine and try others in those styles as you refine your pallet.

You're near Duck Rabbit, try their Milk Stout or go there and order a flight

The reason I asked is because I love roasty bitter black coffee so the first beers that I loved were stouts.

I would recommend something strong, at least 15% ABV or above. Preferably in a 22oz format or larger. And make sure to drink the whole thing. Its important to come out swinging. Set the liver for the next 60 or so years.
