The beer that nobody seems to be posting ISO's for, but a dozen or so people are posting FT's of the same beer for whales. I get it, your small brewery only had a limited amount of bottles, but that doesn't make them worth my Ardea.

Dealing with a similar issue now. Completed a trade with a guy and have been waiting over a month for him to complete feedback. Have sent him two messages asking for him to do it, but no response, even though he has viewed it. Think it might be related to the fact that I wrote there were some issues in the trade, even though I still gave him a "good" review

I'll admit to doing this, as I've noticed you get more views that way. Though I've also noticed a lower response rate, so I think I might have to change my methods...

FT: Random beer that sees wide distro x2 (maybe BCBBW for example); ISO: Incredibly rare, super hard to find beer (BA Abrax/Assassin for example)

It's either they're blatantly trying to rip someone off or they don't know what they're doing. I feel like I wade through so many terribly imbalanced trades.

Not everyone is invested into this hobby as others and without input it can be tough to gauge trade value. That's probably the only thing I miss about commenting on trade post, it's nice to know your off sometimes.

I was going to say that commenting would probably fix this. Didn't know if that was a popular view or not.

When I message somebody with beer in their ISO, and get no response.. this has happened multiple times.

When I get a message from someone that has beer I'm ISO then ghosts on me when I reply trying to work out a deal. WHY DID YOU EVEN MESSAGE ME? I just don't understand.

I'm not a big fan when I message someone with a beer they listed as ISO for a beer they have FT and get told that they don't want to trade the FT beer, but ask if there is anything else I was looking for. Not sure why you put a beer up FT that you don't want to trade.

This hasn't happened often, but it might be my biggest pet peeve once a conversation has begun...

When someone is looking for a specific bottle you have, but then changes their mind when they find out you have a more rare offering.

Excessive acronyms of beer names....some times it's impossible to decide what someone has or is looking for....example...just say "Black Tuesday" instead of BT

Frequent traders with nothing on their wants list.

If for nothing other than sheer self-interest, populate those lists. In years gone by I frequently used to be able to hit a want or two with extras, but hardly anybody seems to keep wants lists anymore.

I completely agree with this statement. Not only have I been able to hook people up with wants as extras, but I have also been able to use their wants as a guide for like-beers they may like. Additionally, people have been generous to me by applying that same tactic towards my side of the trade.

When I message someone who has a beer ISO that I have available, they read said message, then they don't respond at all. Ok then!

Yup. Hate that and it happens all too often to me. I get back to everybody. I especially love it when it is local BAs. Makes me wary of them going forward if they don't have the common courtesy to get back to a simple question/message one way or another.

I'm gonna say that folks who use m*beercellar/secondary as a method of determining the trade value of a beer are a pet peeve of mine for a long time since m*beercellar was just another grey market jackoff on ebay.

And yeah I know almost everybody does it that way now, so in case you were wondering why I rarely trade anymore, playing amateur commodity broker with folks who treat this hobby like it is a money making scheme just isn't so much fun as trading for the love of the beer used to be.

Not responding is defiantly #1. This site shows when you read a message and what your last activity was. If you don't like an offer just be an adult and reply no thanks. I see someone read a message and not reply, then was doing other stuff, I'm deleting the conversation. I'm not taking part in your auction.

And valuing beers based on secondary sites is BS. I think those sites are for people who are all about hype and just want to buy a whale to say they've had it, it's pretty cool to be into beer now days in case you didn't notice. A lot of people are getting worse than pretentious wine snobs.

I don't really mind if shipping is a day or two late, life happens. I got snowed in last week and shipped a couple days late, my bad that my Nissan Versa couldn't drive 25 miles through 6 inches of snow to drop your beer off. The guy was cool about it though and I did put in some good extras.

Shipping doesn't bother me if you pack like crap. Just be expected to replace that beer is something happens. I pack beer to survive a nuke because I don't want to risk replacing a $50 bottle because I didn't want to spend $3 on some more bubble wrap.

Amen! I'm trading for beer that I can't get where I live. Sometimes that means giving a little more $ than what it cost, because I can't get it here. If you're gonna be anal about $ value then just get off BA and go to a secondary site.

Example: BCBS Rare might have cost $60, that's nice. It saw distribution in many states, without having to get a ticket, so stop acting like you deserve a whale for it. It was literally at some Safeways here in Washington state.

Or i'll offer some deGarde and people be like "that's only a $15 bottle". Yeah it was, you know where dG is at? It's in the middle of nowhere Oregon, and isn't seeing distribution. So that $15 bottle is costing a lot more than that to get. I'm not giving you multiple because the $ it sold for isn't the same as what you got from your local bottle shop. There's more to value than just MSRP.

And if you're trying to profit from trading, just GTFOH.
