I don't remember the exact days in the past, but Founders sent kegs of KBS to other pubs in the community in the days leading up to the official tap release at Founders. I think I had a Tuesday ticket. I picked up bottles and had a pour of CBS at Founders, then went to one of the other locals to get a pour of KBS.

You are correct but atleast Saturday when I went, the keg kicked in 40 mins. I didn't get to try any but had 2014-2016 kbs on tap. It was a ton of fun and the hotel packages rock! Met a lot of great people.

    Bottle Sales:

    • Bottles are sold through a ticketing system, which allows you to purchase your allotment in advance. These tickets go on sale Saturday, February 18 at 11am via the links below. Those links will not be live until this time. They will sell very quickly.
    • You can purchase two options:
      • Regular = $132 + ticketing fees. The regular includes four 4-packs or 12oz bottles and two 750mL bottles of 2017 KBS. Purchase HERE.
      • Junior = $84 + ticketing fees. The junior options includes two 4-packs of 12oz bottles and two 750mL bottles of 2017 KBS. Purchase HERE.
    • Each ticket reserves you the right to purchase the corresponding option, but only on the day you select as your pickup day. There are several days to choose from:
      • Tuesday, March 7, 11am-9pm
      • Wednesday, March 8, 11am-9pm
      • Thursday, March 9, 11am-9pm
      • Friday, March 10, 11am-9pm
      • Saturday, March 11, 11am-9pm
      • Sunday, March 12, 11am-9pm
    Taproom Release Party:

    • The taproom release party will be held Saturday, March 11 from 11am-2am.
    • This is a first-come, first-served event and there are no tickets required. There is no fee to enter.
    • KBS will be pouring all day.

Looks like they're using a new site, Ticketfly, this year.

What did this mean? Can you have a ticket and not get your allotment? That makes no sense. Sell less tickets.

You may buy ONE ticket for either a Regular or Junior sized allotment for ONE of the following days between 11AM – 9PM (Each day is first come, first served and will sell out when the day’s allotments do):

They're referring to the amount of tickets for each day that will be available on the website. You have to pick up your order on the day that you buy a ticket for, and there are set amounts of tickets for each day. When Saturday's (for example) allotment of tickets is bought up, that's it, you'll need to try your luck for a different pickup day. You could still go to the Saturday party to partake of the taps, but no bottles for you. Same as years past.

But I don't want to buy any 750 ml bottles.

I liked it better when each ticket gave you the opportunity to purchase the entire allotment, but wasn't necessary.

I think that's just their way of saying that if you don't have a ticket at all or for that day, don't come and hang out hoping there will be extra bottles for sale.

And I do agree that forcing you to buy both formats is a bit shady.

But some people do like to buy the big bottles to have for sharing or for parties (not saying I'm necessarily one of them). So, they try to give people access to both. That doesn't seem shady at all to me.

And, there is always the very easy solution of just not buying tickets, which most of us won't anyway considering how hard it was last year to get them.

Also hearing much more to distro this year. Possibly will have access to multiple 4pks instead of single bottles on the East side this year.

Having two formats is not what I was referring to (although I don't agree with it)....it is the idea of forcing you to buy 2 750's if you want any at all. The larger format is nothing more than a cash grab IMO as it is always more cost effective to get the 12 oz bottles, which goes against the "cheaper in bulk" concept.

And this is one change they are making this year. You didn't have to pre-pay for your beer in years past and weren't forced to get a certain allotment. You always had a choice to not get full allotment, which is the case at most if not all other releases.

This seems to be the format that big beer releases are moving towards. Keeps the amount of cash at the brewery to a minimum. And being that there are 2 bottle sizes now it assures that ticket holders get a portion of each size without causing a huge internet clusterf**k when tickets go onsale. I personally love the idea of KBS in bombers.

If being forced to buy the 750's is that big of a deal to you, you know the simplest solution. There is so much of the 4 packs that hit distribution, you should have no problem finding those. I would like to get a ticket just to experience the "event" of KBS Week for once. I definitely don't need to do it for the access to the beer since there is such a large amount of this available at retail.

Don't just assume it's a cash grab, even if they do make more money off it. Although many of us prefer the smaller 12 oz bottles in 4 packs due to being more cost effective, there are people that prefer the bomber style, so I wouldn't say it's just a cash grab. The pre-paying should technically make it easier on their end and the process of picking up your beer smoother as well - similar to what was done with Dark Lord Day last year.

Given that they have the two formats (which is a separate discussion in itself), how could they accommodate a choice of formats? If they have x amount of 4pks and 750s per day and people decided when they get there what they wanted, it would create lines each day because people would want to ensure they got the format they wanted before it runs out. That wouldn't work.
If they could somehow set up ticket sales where one could choose a format, people would complain on being shut out on the format they want. At least this way, you know what you're going to get up front and you either try for a ticket or not (and then take a chance with distro).
