Most of my recommendations would come directly from this site's list of tripels ordered from highest rated on down.

    https://www.beeradvocate.com/lists/style/58/

E.g., High on my list would be La Fin du Monde from Unibroue and the Westmalle Trappist Tripel.

Start with Westmalle - its widely considered the best example of the style and its readily available. La Fin Du Monde would be my next recommendation. From there @drtth is spot on, anything in that top 20 or so should be solid. I'm partial to St. Bernardus' Tripel, and Gouden Carolus over say, Tripel Karemliet which is not my favorite, but they are all good.

Also, just don't try Golden Monkey.

Yep. If you stay within the top 10-20 what's the "best" is pretty much going to be a matter of personal preference, maybe even depending on the day or the week, or whatever.

Would suggest something different but have to go with what was already said. La Fin Du Monde and Westmalle are great examples to try.

La Fin Du Monde is probably one of the best values, I can pick it up for around $11 a 4 pack, most belgians are in the $15 to $16 range here. Want a change of course try the
Achouffe Houblon Chouffe IPA which is a Belgian IPA, tad less sweet with a hop backbone

Love the Achouffe Houblon Chouffe IPA, it is so good. If you want to try a Belgian IPA then that is one of the first ones I'd say try.

De ranke Guldenberg is a good one if you can get your hands on it. For more readily available examples of the style, you cant go wrong with La Fin Du Monde, St Bernardus Tripel, Chimay White, Val Dieu Tripel and Tripel Karmeliet

Westmalle, Achel 8° Blond, and St. Bernardus are excellent, and New Belgium Trippel is pretty solid and widely available. I really need to revisit La Fin du Monde, as it's been quite a while since I rated it and it's probably a helluva lot better than my rating.

Moa from New Zealand is quite good. I don't think it is reviewed as high as it should be. It would seem anything smooth and drinkable is in the 86-87 category.

But anything alcoholic and harsh with lot's of hops or bourbon gets considerable marks...

In other words...take the reviews with a grain of salt and seek this one out, it's outstanding.

My tops are Westmalle, Karmeliet, Chimay, and Curieux, though as @tlema1 mentioned, the Curieux's different, being aged in bourbon barrels.

Recommendations would depend to some extent to what's available locally. Presuming you are within the distribution area I'll say La Fin Du Monde.

Westmalle is great.....I also like southern tier tripel cafe brewed with green coffee beans. I like Chimay white but think there are better for less out there.

    Enjoy

I can go on about all the different Tripels out there as it is my favorite style but I'll keep it simple.
Start by doing yourself 3 big favors:
    1) Try Westmalle - to me it has the most perfect balance of everything a Tripel is supposed to be and is super smooth.

    2) Seek out a 750ml Allagash Curieux and rejoice in a 11% ABV wallop of smooth and velvety, barrel-aged perfection. It's a little pricey, around $18-25 but absolutely worth every penny.

    3) Find and horde a few bottles of
Boulevard's Long Strange Tripel before they disappear forever.

    Cheers
