?

Do you stop drinking craft beer once you get to a certain point of intoxication?

I don't really get into this situation much. If I was starting to feel intoxicated I would either slow down, stop, or switch to a low ABV craft option.

I've got a dedicated beer fridge overflowing with bottled and kegged homebrew and just a few good commercial beers. I've got to drink it if I want to justify brewing more. I'm proud to say there isn't one BMC product/equivalent in my house. Also, I absolutely hate getting drunk, but on those rare occasions where it seems like a decent idea, I still don't drink bad beer. If my wife is drinking wine and we're not near the fridge, I may hijack the bottle. I hate wine, so I suppose if you were to replace the wine with a 25 oz can of Bud...

Bottom line, I may switch to a homebrewed cream ale or something. BMC is for emergencies only.

"Drunk" also has kind of a loose definition in these sorts of discussions so it's hard to know what everyone is actually saying. For some people it's synonymous with college level black outs, for others it's anything that means they're unable to drive, for others it's anything more than a mild buzz.

I can count on one hand the number of hangovers or "sloppy" nights I've had since my 20s, but I certainly drink more than would allow me to drive on occasion and that's how I answered the question.

Hmm, trying to remember the last time I was lit from beer. Non beer alcohol, yes a few years back, but not from Beer. Oh, I remember now, when Gaelic Storm was playing at Highland Brewing, bout 4 years ago. Yikes. So, no I don't "switch".

Missing the 3rd option, I stop drinking everything when I reach that point. Hate waking up with a hangover, and the beer the next day usually doesn't taste that good if you abuse yourself the night before.

    What's the word? Thunderbird!

But to answer the OP - no, but a few times out at a bar I have opted to drink Yuengling or PBR after a few rounds, when all the craft beer options were 7% ABV or higher, so that I wouldn't get drunk.

I do reach for more beer when drunk. There's a reason I drink once a week! The great part of being an adult is choosing how drunk I want to be. I sit in my house and play video games like a 12 year old, usually once a week. So what? I also go to work and pay my bills.

What do you find conceited about wondering how many on this forum reach for BMC type beers when they get too drunk? I'm not judging, nor am I waiting to make fun of anyone for a response. It's just a question.

I thought about defining what I meant by drunk and gave up. I'd agree that there are probably some pretty broad ideas as to what that means, so it is hard to do. The driving limit seems close, but who knows. Me personally, the common old limit of .1 might work.

When I first got into craft, maybe, and didn't "get" refusing to drink BMC.

Being in industry related to beer/wine/spirit, BMC is by far the most anti-competitive of all companies in that notoriously slime-y industry. I do consciously try to not buy BMC. I'll drink some schwill if the time is right, but prefer if it's from Trader Joe's or something like that. Cheaper too.

If I reach that point where I can freely think, I am not drunk enough.. Just being honest.. I've had some gems that I don't quite remember and some that are left 3/4 full when I wake up. I think that's the honest response.

Now if I need to extend an evening when I tried some heavy hitters first, I may go with some light pilsners or goses (some export, some local). If there is no options at a party, It is likely whatever is in the coolers. So I wouldnt technically call it "when too drunk". But drunk enough to know what your doing.

These "drunk" related threads come up every so often. I almost feel it is taboo to talk about

I didn't say "conceited". I said "the conceit" ... as in the concept of the question, which assumes one switches from drinking craft beer to drinking something else at some point in a session.

    I don't switch. I just stop drinking.

So I answered "no" because that properly answered the conceit of the question. But as a raw question, I could've answered "yes" because I do stop drinking craft beer when I reach a certain point of intoxication.

I don't think the question's conceited. It's not a perfect question because I could answer it yes or no and be telling the truth.

If my aim is to get drunk, I usually skip the beer all together, and go for Vodka or Whiskey. Why drink good beer if it's just going to come up later/tomorrow? Plus, if you grab a Monster Super Dry, you can get around 7 shots of Vodka in there before you start to taste the Vodka. That is a very efficient way to get you there. To live in dorms again...

When I'm drinking beer, I usually trying to enjoy it's flavors. When I start feeling buzzed or tipsy, I'll usually finish the beer I'm drinking, and then grab a snack and wait before my next beer. I almost exclusively by singles, so drinking a beer while drunk would be a bit of a waste for me personally.

I stop. 99% of the time I don't have any non-craft in the house. I will occasionally buy BMC for a Sunday or Saturday afternoon. And I will drink the BMC at rec league softball.

On very, very rare occassions (like once every few years), when I have been out at bars for long hours with friends that pound beers, I'll start with craft but will then switch to the most watered down swill to avoid going over the edge.

I'm old, so a more normal "wild" night is 2-3 craft beers max with friends around a campfire or in someones house and in bed before 10pm.
