Yes, baited. Throughout the lottery submission days a big draw was the “vintage sale.” There vintage sale was 15 Rare. They didn’t put it out there that it was just Rare being sold. You would think that for Prop Day, maybe the vintage sale could have been idk...prop lol. I know for a fact a lot of people signed up for the day for just a shot at that, myself included.

These last few posts I’ve made are all a reflection of that fact that we’re seeing a surplus of Rare on the floor in multiple places. You can bring up that ok even an 80 dollar charge at prop day was no big deal compared to what they’re on the shelf now. The point is they made it seem like it was such an appreciation to their customers to offer rare. Clearly is wasn’t.

It'd be great if they kegged that up and had it on tap tomorrow, since I'll be there. BTW, if anyone is interested in doing the tour at the taproom tomorrow for any reason, my buddy has some free spots open that we're using.

All three were still on when I left around 7 PM. First time with Prop and I enjoyed it very much!

Not sure if someone experienced this or it was mentioned earlier in this thread, but this past black Friday I got 1 of each variant from the downtown Jewel on State and Ohio. I finally decided to open the prop this past Friday and realized that it was actually a 2015 prop, not a 2016. (i didn't really look at the box or bottle when I got it as I assumed it was 2016). Of course it was an infected prop and a complete drain pour. I wasn't expecting much anyways from the 2016 or a 1 year old 2015 but couldn't even finish an ounce. I'm going to reach out to both Jewel and GI and see if they were aware of this as this was months after they announced infection issues.

They had Regular, BW, and Prop on tap tonight at the Junction at Union Station. $12 for a 10 oz pour.

Drinking a BCBBW on the BNSF listening to Sigur Rós' Taak makes me want to die a happy man.

I'm drinking Prop right now on train, awaiting to depart. Best commuter beer ever.

The prop was gone after only a few hours, I didn't get there in time.

Galati's Hideaway in Cary has 2015 BCBS on tap. It's amazing what a year will do.

Finally cracked my bottle of Prop 2016 tonight (for the NBA All-Star Game). Anyone else feel like there's huge bottle/draft variation on this? I'm even getting pour variation. First pour was super hot and spicy, 2nd was a bit more balanced with more chocolate and maple. Also remember a lot of people getting smoke-bombs, and I'm really getting little-to-no smoke.

Hmm, maybe oscillate the bottle a bit prior to pouring to blend?

I got no smoke in mine. From what I heard, there were at least two very different batches. I thought that all of the bottles that were released on black Friday were the same batch, though.

I think when people discribe the smokeyness they are talking about the secondary flavor of the chitpotle peppers. When I talk to folks at Binny's or Goose thats what they seem to be discribing. Usually theyll say something like, "this years prop was so smokey because of the chitpotle peppers."

Certainly a different spice flavor than last years.

I think there was a different version that was released (sold in botles) than the one they had at FOBAB. I've seen people talk about that which sort of makes sense. Either way, from what I understand Prop is the least consistant beer of the BCS lineup. Seems like this year's differs depending where you drink it.

I didn't get much smoke when I had Prop on tap, but it's possible the chipotle's smokiness blended with the other elements of the beer. I love chipotle as a flavor in general, but didn't get as much of it as I thought I would (which is fine, because I don't like pepper in my beer generally).

I wouldn't be surprised if something like chipotle is more difficult to utilize consistently in a beer. Given that spiciness in general fades over time in beer, and that chipotles are basically burnt jalapenos, I can see there being extra layers to the complexity of working with chipotle (no science here, just my thoughts).

These are basically my thoughts too. I feel like when I drink Prop I have a different experience every time. Honestly though, because of that single fact, Prop becomes one of the most interesting beers in my wheelhouse. It's an experiment that GI sells to the public with a list of ingredients that aren't generally found in any other beer. 15 had some of the most off the wall adjuncts I've ever seen in beer.

I understand where people are coming from when they want just coconut in the beer but whats truly exciting for me is how every version of this beer is different. I feel like GI pushes for something you dont expect and land on something really awesomly unexpected. Its amazing that the real consistantancy with each Prop is the base stout recipe.

I honestly hope they don't go back to any other ingrediants and keep making this beer more and more weirdly experimental. I kinda like supporting things that are unfamilar and wildy idosyncratic. The ever changing flavor of these beers make craft beer somewhat of an art form. Who knows, maybe theyll find anotyer popular adjunct like coconut or coffee that'll become the next big thing for beer.
