After seeing interest in this tasting on the ideas thread we will be doing another style tasting. Lets get one more winer style in before the weather warms up with a barleywine tasting. The event will be March 4, the first Saturday of the month, starting at 5 pm central time. I'm still debating whether or not to include old ales, since they are such similar styles, so I'll leave that up to discussion. The link is below.

I'll not be at 5 because I work late but that night. Around midnight. I'll grab some horn dog barleywine from flying dog and join.

I'm in. I recently picked up an Old Bufflehead from the Corridor Collaboration Series. Brewed in (I think) 2014 by Backpocket in Coralville, aged in Cedar Ridge bourbon barrels. I had some of this at a holiday tasting a couple of years ago and it was pretty solid then. It'll be interesting to see what it's like with three years on it.

Nice, I haven't had a ton from back pocket. I just assumed all they did were German styles, looking forward to seeing your review.

I might be able to join this one. Although, due to work schedules, it would probably be after midnight for me, making it March 5th, if no one cares. Haha.

Good timing. I recently saw a "sake" style Barleywine at a near by craft store. I passed it over, but his gives me a reason to try it out.

IN! Since I have some barleywines in the cellar, this should be easily doable.

Well, guess I'm gonna have to find a substitute, seeing as I'm already halfway done with this bottle of 2015 Straight Jacket. *burp*

I'm in too! I've got choices, but since this a high ABV style I'll probably limit my consumption to two of the following:

    Central Waters Brewer's Reserve BA
    '16 BCBBW
    Anchor Old Foghorn

If the parameters are made loose enough to allow Old Ales, I've also got these:

    Smuttynose Really Old Brown Dog
    Founders Curmudgeon

    Decisions, decisions.

I drink barleywine pretty much weekly, year-round, so this should be a cinch!

Awesome, I love Barleywines. I think I have some Blithering Idiot in the cellar, Bigfoot, and several local Maine barleywines. If only I had a bottle of JW Lees too.

Cool. I have been wanting to compare bottles of Bells Third coast, Great Divide Old Ruffian and Bigfoot in which all have like 2 years on them.

Old ruffian is great, I wish I still had some to give it a nice send off on this tasting before it gets retired.

It's getting retired? :slight_frown: Do you remember where you saw that info? I see that it's not on their release schedule but the barrel-aged is  Hibernation is one of those beers that when I drink one I think to myself that I hope it never goes away. I know you're a fan too.
