I am curious, has anyone seen this on shelves? I have not seen in the Cleveland area.

If you want to drive to NW WI it's been marked down to $3.99 a bottle at my local grocery store. The bottles have been sitting on the shelf for about a year now, I think. Not a bad price, considering how it is celler-able and originally sold for $9.99 each.

It's either fresh or at least two years old..they didn't brew it last year. Great stuff fresh or aged IMO

Ugh, hate when it goes sideways. I grabbed a 4 pack back on Jan 31. It's definitely 16/17. Says bottled 12/17/16. Drank one. Super hot. Put up the rest. Bummer, looks like I paid $16.99 plus tax. On the package they tell you to dig a 3 foot by 3 foot hole, wrap it up, and bury it for a year. Anyone ever tried that :astonished: ?

LOL if I could find some in Ohio, I would try that.

More than any other big beer I enjoy, this one is so much more complex after a full year in the cellar.

Tried fresh and cellared... amazing both ways. I don't remember this one ever being 9.99 a bottle. Even 2ish years ago I think I paid like $17 a 4 pack.

Like most beers, it depends where in the country you're buying it. Around Philly/Delaware it's $14-16/4 pack.

Such a great barleywine, and even at $20 a four pack you can grab one, drink one fresh and then put the others away and try them down the road. Like Bigfoot, Olde Stock Ale and Founders Imperial Stout, another complex beer that you don't have to worry about dying in your cellar if you don't get to it for a couple years. Excellent value.

Now that I have a home with a backyard maybe I'll actually dig a hole and drop one in there just for the novelty...

Yup. You are correct. I checked the sale tag at the grocery store an it is marked down from $5.99
each to $3.99 each. Still not a bad price for a tasty beer though.

I did just for fun (maybe after already consuming a few that night), was an effective cellaring technique...

Just picked some up ($15.99). Always wanted to try this so I'll probably have one tonight or tomorrow. Is this generally pretty hot fresh?

It's been a couple of years since I've had one, but I've always found it pretty hot fresh. Still good though.
