1-22-16. Just over a year old, but still plenty of hop flavors!

Just go Odell in our market about a week or so ago. Having their Runoff Red IPA right now. This is a superb hoppy red. Citrus, pine, slight berry, and caramel. Creamy mouthfeel with a great resinous finish. It's been awhile since I've had an amber/red, and this beer is rekindling my love for them lol. I definitely recommend this brew.

I've made my way through three of the Frootwoods at this point, and I've liked each one a little more. The last one I had was the second beer of the night (I either had a milk stout or DIPA right before, can't remember) and it went down very smooth and easy.

Was lucky enough to go there for 5 days of diving when I was stationed in Germany. Epic diving!

Most Gose are kettle soured with lactobacillus, and then boiled and fermented with clean German ale yeast. They will not have any brett or funky/saison stuff going on. I suggest looking for some Gueuze, "Oude" fruit lambics, or Flanders red/bruins. Emphasis on the "Oude" or Old in Dutch; because that means they are long term aged (2-3 years) and will be much more sour and funky etc. There are a lot of Fruit Lambics out there that are sweeter that don't use this designation. Gueuze will always mean it is a blend of 1, 2, and 3 year old straight lambics.

The aroma is a little citrusy with lots of spices.
The flavor is well balanced. The dark rich roasty malts are very present but don't overpower the cinnamon and ginger that comes through on the finish.its got a nice rich maltiness that holds up well to the spices.
Overall this is a solid bock, it's not great, but I've been wanting to try it for a while. I honestly think if sam Adams made a non spiced version of this and just sold it as a bock it'd be better.

I usually take pic downlaod to My Drive on my phone. Upload pictures to either Imgur or Photobucket copy then paste direct link to BA. Insert your comments first on BA site then proceed with above. Or if you want comments after pic reverse procedure

Well, I did decide to come home tonight, instead of keeping my mom company. My sister, who lives a whole lot closer is staying over. So NBS time it is, and it is a 2 fer post.

I wasn't planning on stopping along the way, on my hour and a half drive home. Well, that changed when I got onto I-494. It was totally backed up. I'm thinking, oh crap! Then I'm thinking "Pit Stop!!!". Wild Mind Artisan Ales was my pit stop. I stopped there last night to get growlers for some people helping me out. Tonight I got beers for me.

    First up, a the brewery:
Imperial. It wasn't in the system, so I had to add it. Holy cow! I could have had 5 more of them, they were so good. The problem with that is it's a 10% beer!!!! One and done there.

This Dark Farmhouse pours pitch black. The head is brown, but minimal. The nose has slight hints of chocolate. Slight coffee hints. The taste is rich, smooth, robust, coffee, slight chocolate. It doesn't drink like a 10% beer. No harsh alcohol flavor. Easy drinking, but not watery. Damn good. DAMN good.

Damn, another delicious beer from them. Will I destroy the growler tonight? Who knows, but there's a chance.

This beer pours a fairly clear golden color. The head was fairly thick at first - 3 finger, and is frothy white. The nose is got some floral, and some citrus from hops. The taste is very interesting. There's some flavors I can't describe, to be honest. There's some sweetness to it. Slight amount of hops, that comes out on the way down. Seems like there's the floral element to it. You feel the carbonation going down, with just a slight hops aftertaste. Not watery feeling. Overall a good, solid beer.

Well, that might be it for me here in NBS, but you never know.

I played with it a bit a reply to Asia I think to keep it off a busy sight. But ya that's the way I did the last one, sorry to jam up the Sunday thread. Next week I'll really be able to do it right.

That's good to know! The gose was VERY clean tasting. I do like a bit of that saison effervescence.

    Thanks very much!

Went and visited a friend up in Harrisonburg today, which involved eating at an Italian place that happened to have a pretty decent selection of beer on top of some very nice food.

This was my "dessert" beer, Duck-Rabbit Milk Stout. Well, just the empty bottle -- I didn't get a picture until after I was done, heh. I used to see this around at the local Kroger but I've never actually tried it before. I don't think I've had any beer from The Duck-Rabbit until today, actually -- the milk stout is the only one I really recall seeing on the shelves before, but with them being based in North Carolina it's possible that others show up around here from time to time too.

As for the beer -- it was pretty good! Since I didn't get a picture -- it was very dark in color but not nearly pitch-black like the bigger stouts (I could see some brown around the edges), didn't form a lot of foam on top when pouring interestingly enough. I could definitely see a resemblance to the only other milk stout I've tried so far (Left Hand); I think I liked the Left Hand more, but still, this was pretty tasty. Mostly roasty, almost-coffee-like flavors, not much sweetness but there was a bit there, and actually did come across as having a flavor that reminded me of the sweetness in milk (shouldn't be too surprising considering that the "milk" in milk stout comes from lactose aka milk sugar, but still interesting that I was able to pick that specific resemblance out. I remember noticing this in the Left Hand milk stout too, now that I think about it. I figure that's a common feature in the style considering how the milk sugar is the defining feature and all.) Not much of any bitterness either now that I think about it -- seemed very balanced that way.

Also had a Peroni along with my meal -- not a new beer by any stretch of the imagination, but it was draft rather than bottled which was a first for me since none of the Italian places around here have draft options (aside from the one pizza place that offers a lineup of Bud Light, Yuengling, and Devil's Backbone Vienna Lager.) I have to say, it was by far the tastiest glass of Peroni I've ever had -- freshness and lack of light exposure really benefit this beer! The bottled Peroni (of varying freshness) that I've had usually had at least a tiny whiff of that skunky smell when pouring and shortly after, while this was 100% skunk-free. Also had much more prominent grassy-type hop flavors than any bottle I've had -- I've had some bottles where they were pretty noticeable, but usually the slightly-skunked bottles have somewhat dulled flavors all around and in the older ones the hops are just a vague bitterness balancing the malt rather than much of an actual flavor. If I get the chance I'll have to re-review this beer sometime based on a draft pour (or a fresh can, maybe... it also comes in cans, right? I've never seen them before but I think I remember hearing someone mention canned Peroni at some point) now that I know how good it can really be when it hasn't been impaired by sub-par packaging.

    Well Hello Late Night NBS.
I haven't had a chance to really read and catch up yet. But, I did want to pipe in with the new beer of the day while I'm enjoying it. It was a busy couple of days with a few birthday celebrations. We hosted both. Luckily for me today was for my 12 year old nephew who is a sports junky (and quite the natural along the lines of sports genius too), so I got to have the Indiana/Michigan game on, as well as the Wisconsin/Northwestern game. Unluckily for me, with Indiana and Wisconsin did not fare well.:slight_frown::slight_frown::slight_frown:

Anyway, everything else went well. Food, fun, and family packing the house.
    Well here's today's fermentations.

I wish I could remember who sent me this NC beauty.
Truth be told, I've sat on this for a full year and a half.
Pours a a dark brown leather. A creamy, milky head forms. Cafe mocha in color. Beautiful. 2 plus fingers high. Eventually it settles to a consistent, lightly creamy ring that sticks around for the whole ride.
Smell is gorgeous, lush, and surprisingly almost devoid of any chocolate notes. Primarily a roasted malty sweetness.
Flavor begins with a gentle roast of malt, moving toward coffee, and eventually some baker's cocoa (unsweetened), and finally a rounded out earthy note that oh so subtly nods toward peat. Finishes with the cocoa.
Mouthfeel is creamy, one could say lush at first, then actually finishes a tad watery.
Overall, a very nice, not overly sweet, chocolate milk stout. Only thing I'd like is to have the mouthfeel finish the way it begins. But I'm not knocking this one a bit.

Now, I have a ton of work due to the fact that I seem to work for the only school district in this part of SoCal that does not have the day off tomorrow.:slight_frown:

Are they that hard to come by? I have 2 very good ones available by me, Rush river über alt and schells schmaltz alt, and I can get those when they're in season. The whole point of style tastings is to give some love to under appreciated styles. I'd love to do an altbier if they were easy enough to find.
