Trying to be a beer advocate I brought beer trading to a video game forum I frequent. Got a box in today that was pretty....interesting. I've always had the mantra of pack any way you want as long as it arrives safe. This tested that ideal.

This box, sent through USPS doesn't look suspicious at all....

Inside a note, apologizing for the packaging material and assuring me everything was washed. Wrapped around everything...yes, that's a bath towel.

Inside the plastic bag under the towel the beers were wrapped in old socks, with shrink wrap over each.

And in the bottom for padding along with some newspapers, was some old shirts.

But the haul arrived safe and sound...and that is really all I care about. So I say bravo for ingenuity. As for the contents.

So how about you guys, what's the strangest/most unique box you've sent or received?

This is a little embarrassing but whatevs

The only box I could find big enough to fit a 12 bottle shipper I got was way too big. I ended up duct taping empty 2L bottles to the outside of the shipper so it wouldn't bounce around. I should have just ordered one online but had a growler to send out so wanted to get it out ASAP. My trading partner was nice by saying "it was interesting" but everything made it there safe haha.

Anyway, I don't think I can top socks but I doubt many people have sent empty 2L bottles as filler.

Be thankful you didnt get the "red" towel.

I got some motorcycle parts from ebay very similarly packed. With three styrofoam peanuts taped to the axle. I just shook my head and laughed.

Kudos for the effort on that packaging! But Hanzo, you should really send all those clothes back to the MN/WI trader who sent them. It's going to be getting pretty cold there soon!

I'm surprised I didn't see this haul in the worst disaster thread with those beta hands.

You'll reuse those packaging materials in your next box you ship out, right?

I got a box from a Texas trader packed with some towels and a dirty white poncho with a McDonald's logo on it...that was pretty weird.

Excellent topic Hanzo. I actually lol'd (for serious) when I saw the socks on the bottles. I'm sure my trading partners say wtf when they see some of the shit I throw in there (usually whatever (paper) garbage is lying near me goes in (receipt from beer, grocery bags, paper bags, six pack holder, cardboard scraps, etc.).

One time I did receive a dirty dish rag in a trade box. I figure in 75-80 trades, you gotta get something weird every once in a while.

One of my next boxes is going to go out packed inside a class B hazmat suit from my fire dept. It has only been used a little bit, and not in any hazardous environments.

That actually would be really awesome to get as packiing material, and I would wear it.

When I can't find any suitable bubble-wrap, I fill my trade boxes with 'mixed cotton rags' which are shredded recycled t-shirts (and occasionally undies). Floral patterned dresses for little girls are a pretty creepy thing to wrap around a bottle of fou foune imo.

Not on this forum, but one time I got a video game from a guy on another forum (Super Smash Bros. Brawl, obviously) that was packed in a Cheezit box. No marker or anything. It was awesome.

Everybody who receives it should sign it and add their location to it to see where it goes:slight_smile:
