Will be heading to LA area tomorrow (hopefully) for a week. I will be around Glendale, Pasadena, Anaheim and Ontario. From my basic research WF Glendale and Eagle Rock Brewery are probable two must stops. Any other recommendations? Any chance I can find any RR ipa's? Any input appreciated. TIA

Go to the Glendale Tap. They are on Instagram and always posting an imperial line up

+1 on Glendale Tap. Their list is insane right now. If it's still on, try Beachwood Hops of Fury, my favorite TIPA.

You'll want to hit up Bill's Liquors in Atwater Village, a mile or so from Glendale Tap. There's a decent chance they'll have Pliny--when they get it, it comes on Friday, and sometimes lasts until the next day. It's usually on tap a number of places, like Mohawk Bend. Another thing to note is that Pliny the Younger is starting to make its appearance in L.A. this week. There will be events at Blue Palms in Hollywood and 38 Degrees in Alhambra this Saturday, and a few other places during the week. Also in Pasadena are the Stone Taproom and Lucky Baldwin's, another place that might have Pliny on tap (they did a couple nights ago). I'd skip the WF Glendale in favor of WF Pasadena (the one on Foothill Blvd is better IMO, but the one on Arroyo is good, too).

Your best best (I think) close to Rancho Cucamonga is Eureka! in Claremont, a good burger joint with a stellar taplist. They might even be getting Younger sometime this week.

Something a lot of people will say is, "Don't worry about Pliny, there's tons of beer just as good here." Which is true, but it's still well worth trying, especially if you stumble across it.

As far as Anaheim goes, you probably know that Noble and Bottle Logic are must stops, along wth the Bruery if you're into huge, face-numbing beers.

EDIT: As much as I hate to say it, I wouldn't spend valuable time at Eagle Rock Brewery. You can pick up their stuff anywhere in town, and I'd use my time almost anywhere else.

Highland Park Brewery should be near the top of your visit-list. not far from Glendale / Pasadena. Would go there over Eagle Rock. Eagle Rock is fine, but, you should go to HPB. best brewery in the area by far

should check out the Pomona thread for brewery recommendations near Rancho kook

Stone Company Store in Pasadena is worth checking out if you've never been to a Stone location. like Jay Oh said, Bruery, Noble, Bottle Logic for Anaheim

Great thx for all the info. Eagle Rock is walking distance to my first hotel, so thought that was a plus..I have had most of the NE Ipas but first time in Cali so thought I'd attempt to find some RR as it is the grand daddy of ipa's

Cool. Drink as much Beachwood as you can, it's just as good as RR. Bottles are plentiful these days, especially at Bill's. It's also worth a drive out to their Long Beach BBQ restaurant if you have the time/transportation.

Yes....as @JayORear said...Beachwood (Hops Of Fury) is on tap at select places right now. If anything stop at Beachwood Long Beach or Huntington Beach and #drinkindependant. If you get lucky and get some Younger...good. If not, I'd say your better off with HoF from Beachwood Brewing.

Jesus: VERDUGO BAR (on Verdugo, very close to Eagle Rock in a hood called Glassell Park). Almost always has PtE on tap. Blind Pig often too. Mark it 8, dude.

Also bottle shop in Eagle Rock with a consistently good tap list is Craft Beer Cellar.

EDIT: this is all secondary to Glendale Tap, which despite being relatively new has by far the best tap list in the area.

    Hey Guys,

Glad your enjoying the taplist at The GT. I'm in charge of the beer program over there. We're trying to keep things consistently exciting for everyone. Since our sole focus is beer, we are committed to bringing you the best program that we possibly can.

I'm also thinking of starting a bottle share once or twice a month at the bar if anyone is interested, please let me know and we'll get something in the works.

    Cheers!

Sounds great all! Let me think of a couple of upcoming nights that may work and I'll post in this forum within the next couple of days.

my only complaint with GT is the glassware. i.e. water glasses that we to have at home when I was 8 years old in the early 80's

That was my only complaint for a while. I stopped in on Saturday night and had a great time. Place was packed (which was great but new for me since it'd been a while). But back on point, the glassware is all new from the bad glassware they used to have. Taplist from the Strong Ale fest was great and hopefully some of those blown kegs will be replaced with other goodies.
