Good morning BAs! Still no computer so no pix. Today's New Breakfast Beer is HiJinx's Hop Havoc. Too much malt and not enough grapefruit. One and done.

    Good Morning BA
This is a beer I have had regular access to for years, but always passed at $10 @ 22oz. It's in 12 oz bottles now and I traded a couple fresh Chicago beers from Binnys to a dad who had swung through 3 Floyds on the way up last weekend.

3 Floyds Space Station Middle Finger 6% 50 IBU pale ale bottled 2/14/17. Yellow/gold in color with little head but great lacing. Smells good with a vague fruit aroma. Tastes great. 3 Floyds always gets the malt & hop package right on their pales. Perfect balance. Citrus rind, earthy flavors, and tropical fruit all come out in this. Mouthfeel is full but not sweet. Overall, this is an outstanding pale and in a much more economical package to buy or trade. Recommend

    Score 3.16
    look: 2.75 | aroma: 3 | taste: 3.25 | feel: 3.25 | overall: 3.25

Appearance of light hazy yellow with white cap and some lacing.

Aroma is surprising. If you handed this to me blind I would've said blueberry rather than raspberry. Two other tasters whose opinion I sought said apple or "something". It is a pleasant scent though no matter how described.

Taste is where I get raspberry. Not a sharp, tart raspberry, rather a creamy sweetened flavor. Hop presence is minimal. The slight prickly sensation I get may be hops, or carbonation and I suspect the latter. Of course it's a fruit dominant taste and one shouldn't be surprised. It is lightly textured, heavily flavored and just a bit more sweet than I like. I wonder if it would be more appealing if the color was red. Anyway, it is what it is.

Lighter side of medium texture. More carbonation might make it more mouth filling but I can't say that would make the flavor stand out more.

Overall it's a decent, well made, highly fruit flavored wheat beer that wasn't designed to sip and savor, rather to drink and enjoy.

Guess what is under that red cloth? :grinning: My tortillas are resting before I roll them out. I got crazy with hubris after my hamburger buns and while I was measuring the water I spilled some into the bowl with my ingredients! :grimacing: SO I went freestyle with these . I also have had three a 'dese today. I like this beer.

    Cheers!

    Bolero Snort Strawberry Vanilla Bullsicle
    An IPA at 6.3% ABV
brewed with strawberry, milk sugars and vanilla beans.
From Ridgefield Park NJ, bergen County(?)

Pretty crazy. You taste slight strawberry then it's all hops. A great ipa at that. Sweet, probably from the milk sugar and vanilla. Dry as a mofo but when you swallow it, there's more strawberry and vanilla. It's somehow dry and sweet at the same time, which is certainly something if comparing that feel to how wine feels. Usually it's one or the other. I'm happy I found this. Far south jersey at that. Exit 36 GSP. There's usually no sight of smaller brewers down there. Says brewed and canned at double nickel in Pennsauken for bolero snort so that's an hour west, maybe why it was down here. Glad I grabbed all I could.

    Cheers

Easing into lunch revisiting one from the seasonal pack . . .

Taste is caramel on entry with darker touches of toffee and roast malt entering mid palate. Hops are there but like a transparent finish on dark wood furniture. There is some hop presence but they have more an aromatic than bittering influence. Aftertaste brings a homemade bread touch and the hops spark a bit before dying out.

Overall it strikes me as somewhere between an amber and an oktoberfest. This isn't to say it's lacking, just seems to have it's feet on both banks straddling the stream. I find it a pleasant, easy drinking style that should work well with a variety of food. I think I would like it to be just a bit dryer but it's well balanced as is. Reminds me of what beer used to be back in the 60s.
